to me, it has more relation with how they're just addicted to limited shit + they're being fucking tired of their zombie-like study/work routine than anything else.
you can also even link this to why they never get tired of isekai shit. they're just tired of their daily routine/lives and wish to escape from that, and free games with their limited waifu/husbando on their phones are the easiest way for them to do that.
