Chest messages were a by-product of old programming when EACH individual chest had their own "this chest is empty" message instead of reusing the same text.
Localizer (xseed) decided to add a text to each chest instead of having them display the same message
Japanese players/Falcom probably doesn't know about it and 'removed' that from later games

One of the problem with Ratatan is that you have to follow the actual song's beat
You can't cancel a fever and immediately start your own beat, you'd have to wait one (music) bar before being able to input commands again
That and the whole roguelite aspect kinda sucks since the powerup you get feels pretty underbaked compared to other games
