The problems with the models aren't that they look bad or are poorly animated but that they're not consistent with the artstyle or the other parts of the game.
The original in-game models were rough as fuck, yes, but they were consistent with the rest of the game's aesthetic. The new models have better textures, details and animations, yes. But they look like assets from a completely different game dropped into an much older one where they don't belong because that's essentially what they are. The character models got better but the environments they were placed in didn't so they stick out like a sore thumb. They took a game that was rough around the edges but still seamless and consistent and turned it into a frankenstein of part made for different purposes at different times by different people. The seams show.
And again, I'm not saying the remaster is unplayable. I just played it all the way through. But acting like it was some across the board improvement is just flat-out lying. It's a compromised vision.
