She legitimately thought that he and his group would be a help to her cause to overthrow Robotnik. He was a pawn to her, like all men are. Sonic just happened to make the best of a bad situation by undermining the betrayal, securing a long-term ally, and cleaning Sally's mess for her.
Sonic is the wind, even in SatAM.
That is something you need to get drilled into your skulls.
That's why SatAMnic is always right. That's why SatAMnic is playful. That's why SaAMnic is an inspiration to those around him. Especially Tails. That's why SatAMnic does not listen to others.
>b-but he cries, he gets upset
We have never seen a situation in the games where Sonic is exposed to a roboticized family member turning on him, betraying his expectations, and losing their free will in real time. The closest we get is Tails in lost world who was never actually roboticized (as in, having lost his free will), just the insinuation of it. And Sonic is shown to be visibly distressed at the prospect. Unsettled and angry. Much like Sonic is about Uncle Chuck. If Lost World Tails did genuinely try and kill Sonic or went back to being a murderous robot after a short period of time, you cannot claim it entirely out of character that game Sonic would be distraught over this. And again, Tails isn't Sonic's literal family like uncle Chuck is.
>b-but Sonic lives in one place
He lives in one place because it's a nice place to nap where Robotnik's forces cannot harass him. He routinely goes off to Robotropolis and other parts of Mobius for fun. The series establishes this right out of the gate with the pilot of Tails trying to tag along. Sonic is always going on adventures in SatAM, either of his own volition or somewhere cool Sally's told him about.
SatAM Sonic is incredibly in character considering the limited amount of canon material that existed at the time and the showrunners had access to. Bashing it because of how Archie would bastardize Sonic is reckless and impulsive.
