Glad you're not a writer if you think the main couple's treatment was okay. The show starts with their engagement and ends with them being married and yet somehow you think their relationship is not central to the plot. Never mind the fact that I can think of shorter series with roughly the same or even less focus on romance that still delivered a compelling ship/love story.
Also, GWitch is like one of the least political Gundam shows, outside of outright battle shounen shit like G Gundam.
