> What can Western Animation do to fix the damage?

Go back to hand painting backgrounds. It's really difficult to care about backgrounds when all we get these days are these silly geometric shapes for backgrounds. Especially for adventure cartoons. I just don't feel that sense of adventure when the backgrounds of Duck Tales look the same as the backgrounds of Family Guy and Star Vs the Forces of Evil.

I remember Pokemon, DBZ, and Sailor Moon had some good hand painted backgrounds. They really can't be THAT expensive to hand paint backgrounds.

What a fat bald bastard. He probably plays Magic the Gathering.

Gravity Falls was a decent adventure, because it's based around Alex Hirsch's adventures in the Pacific Northwest as a child.

I admit, that my life hasn't exactly been all that adventurous either. I did take anthropology/archaeology as a major in college. But that doesn't mean I've explored ancient pyramids. I'm a 38 year old millennial and I play video-games. Yes I'm currently on a hiking adventure - just in Death Stranding on PS4.

The hand drawn and colored backgrounds of the old Duck Tales cartoon really was important for capturing that Indiana Jonesy feel of adventure and foreign travel. You really can't get the same feeling of adventure and mystery with modern style simple backgrounds.

Saltine is really cute. I did like Season 2 episode 1. The chase scene was the best part. The ending of the episode was cute too seeing Saltine being happy that she was going to be Rip's apprentice and do the whip thing.

I do always like these campy Indiana Jones'ey style archaeology adventures. I wish they put out more episode though. Season 1 was only 8 episodes long, and then we waited an entire 2 years for Digman season 2.

Pic related. Ducktales is also about campy archaeology.

Why can't Disney do hand drawn and painted backgrounds like this anymore? The backgrounds of these 80s and 90s cartoons were beautiful. But all Disney can do now for backgrounds are geometric shapes like in Star Vs. and Tangled.

I remember how much the original 1987 Ducktales had that Indiana Jones-ey feeling of adventure. The characters are animated in a made for TV Disney style, but the backgrounds are hand colored and feel very special. The backgrounds just say archaeology and adventure.
