Thank you for the kind words. In some ways it's easier when you're young. Most of my friends have lost their parents as adults and that's a totally different pain I can't imagine. Thankfully my dad is still around.

Absolutely. You have this traumatized, clearly schizophrenic, elderly man, barely coping with his guilt and his mental illness. Henry shows up at what is likely the lowest point in his life since he escaped the trauma of his youth. Unless your Henry is a total POS (non canon) you should feel a massive, urgent obligation to help this man. I had so much fun transitioning from a reluctant errand boy for a weirdo artist, to a genuine friend who desperately wanted to give Voyta closure and fulfillment. Fuck the shield painting. If this was the least involved DLC I cannot wait for the next two.

I tend to think that guards are generally what cops should be and often used to be. Just honest dudes with an interest in protecting their communities and keeping the peace. It isn't like a lot of modern cops who live in gated communities miles away from the neighborhoods they actually patrol and that view their jobs with an "us vs. them" mentality. Of course with the authority that comes from that position there are bound to be people that abuse it in any era. Overall though I think your average village guard had a good reason to be upstanding given that he was dealing with almost exclusively his friends, extended family, and neighbors.

I agree, knowing intimately and constantly interacting with the same members of your community your entire life is definitely the more natural and healthy way of living. The vast majority of people treated each other well just because it's the right thing to do and because they genuinely cared for each other since they had known them their entire lives and likely even had familial ties to them however distant. I'm not religious but I think the church deserves a lot of credit for that as well. No matter how you might feel about an individual, the fact you would have to meet and worship with them once a week does a lot to create a sense of unity and community belonging. I said that about times of struggle more to imply that even the worst eggs in society had to be careful lest they piss off the rest of the community. The majority treated each other well out of a genuine sense of belonging and because it was just the good, Christian way of living. Basically what I mean in my guard commentary as well.

Almost like he suffers from schizophrenia or something. I don't mean to be overly crass. There are valid criticisms of the quest, as you mentioned, but I thought the way they handled his mental illness was pretty good. He has some good days and some very bad days. His intentions are almost always good and I like how Henry by the end can sense that, even if it can be tedious dealing with his delusions at times. I just love how kind and patient he becomes with Voyta as he learns more about him.

Woah, what? How far are you into the DLC? I found him to be incredibly kind and sympathetic after it became clear why he was jerking Henry around. He's around my dad's age though so I found it really easy to be patient with him. By the end he and Henry had become genuine friends.
