Not really but I follow some rules for my armies. For my lamenters I use a new technique or recipe somewhere on every model, but only use colours I'm familiar with. For my aos stuff I always use new colours somewhere on the model, but exclusively use techniques I'm familiar with. It makes bouncing back and forth more exciting for me because a project for 40k will give me ideas for my aos and vice versa. Side games are all rules out the window, just paint.

I wouldn't remove anything. I like having lots of options available to me because it gives me lots of different things to be excited about.

I actually paint lamenters and I'm aware of the fact that they're almost identical to the fists scheme. If you took a fully painted imperial fist, swapped out one shoulder pad for a checkered one, it would just be a lamenter. I'm pretty sure IF also have checker details occasionally too cause it's a pretty common detail across all the chapters.
