Is the current Ork combat patrol (the one with beast snaggas and squig riders) worth it? (Granted that I can get it at a lesser price, like around 90/110 euros). Its fine though, you can always clean up after.
As for the base, you didnt take the easiest base, buts its good for you to train painting tan rocks and earth.
For the canister, paint it bronze like the flamer. Dont get too hung up on its detail,you want eyes on the marine, not the can on the floor.

I play Death Guard because they're really easy and quick to paint and their playstyle is very straightforward.
On the side I work on my heavily kitbashed Word Bearers army that'll take much longer to fully complete

No, for me the whole point is each guy having had time and effort put into them. I finished my first squad with that goal when I got back into the hobby after 15 years and it was super fulfilling, so I wanted the whole army to be that way. Back in the day when I was 14 I didn't cultivate the patience and discipline to paint as well as I'd have liked, so every army was quick n' dirty.

My "quick and dirty" are my Custodes while my "passion" army are my Black Templars.
Simply because I cant really customise the Custodes as much as I can customise the Templars. So I spend a lot less time fidgeting on how I build the models, while every single templar in my army is different.

Not really but I follow some rules for my armies. For my lamenters I use a new technique or recipe somewhere on every model, but only use colours I'm familiar with. For my aos stuff I always use new colours somewhere on the model, but exclusively use techniques I'm familiar with. It makes bouncing back and forth more exciting for me because a project for 40k will give me ideas for my aos and vice versa. Side games are all rules out the window, just paint.

Echoes of Eternity is the first siege of terra book that feels substantial, ironic because its probably the least impactful in the grand scheme of things. But I think it is written the best of all other SoT so far. And it's probably one of my favorite in the whole HH saga now (haven't finished it, about 75% through).
So far siege of terra's been kind of lackluster. People hyped Saturnine but in the end I found it it kind of hollow, and I'm an Abnett guzzler.

Because it's a call back to how the Eldar were first presented in Rogue Trader (as well as some old FW kits), their modern look is a thing they've already pinned down with the killteam, and they make for an easy small ally force that can be run alongside CWE or DE.
So basically nostalgia and convenience. Exodites are likely in the pipe, there's just more work to do before they're ready.

I feel like GW is setting up to give the Tau FTL in the future, they've been hinting at it with Sho'Aun working on an improvement that fixes the flaws of the first slipstream drive that caused the 4th sphere disaster. The Tau already have everything they need to take a ton of territory and resources, they just need the FTL for it.

That said, on that note, I fucking HATE how they've made a single Tau responsible for like, half of the empire's technological developments. Riptides, Stormsurges, Supremacy armor, slipstream drives, it all comes from a single fucking Earth caste Tau. It's so dumb.

Reminder that BL has made the Edict of Nikaea canonically both a Chaos plot to screw over the loyalists, while also the Emperor purposefully self-sabotaging so the Heresy would happen. Back in the day, the ban was just on sorcery, and not all forms of psykers.

No, the Tau FTL retcon was that they only recently have developed FTL. Previously they had the slow FTL throughout like all their expansion spheres except the 1st one I think. But then they changes it so they developed it for the 4th Sphere, which was a big disaster that caused that wormhole. Now they've stabilized it so they have safer FTL for the 5th sphere

The problem is that it makes no fucking sense for the Tau to not have had FTL for the previous expansions. There is no fucking way they could have fought the Damocles Crusade without FTL but that's what GW wants us to believe now.

It isn’t clear how advanced they were. They may have already been sapient. They just changed a lot because they ingested the ork dna and got the ork genetic memories and shit. The kroot character in Elemental Council lists things his grandmother said to always run away from instead of fighting when they realize an imperial assassin is working against them and a krork is one

The problem is that, up until 8th edition, the Tau had the 'gravitic drive' which is what warp-skimming was, allowing them to travel FTL, just slower and safer than the Imperium's.

Then 8th edition comes along and casually drops a "btw the Tau don't have FTL and have to travel at sublight speeds" which makes so little sense that it should honestly just be ignored.

Either way it looks like the Tau have FTL now even if they fucking SOMEHOW didn't have it before. Given that the Tau were miraculously able to conquer some 250 worlds or so without goddamn FTL capabilities, I assume they're probably going to explode in size now that they actually DO have it.

Plus, keep in mind, the Tau have a very strong ground military. The only thing that has stopped them in the past from expanding more is:
1) Their lack of FTL
2) Their lack of naval dominance

Basically, the Tau would win the ground war, but then the Imperium would just exteriminatus the world to prevent them from taking it. That's how the wars have tended to go in the past because as strong as the Tau's ground military is, their navy is only average and much smaller than the Imperium's.

I use Vallejo paints just as often as Citadel, I've never had a problem with Vallejo and the two go together well. I don't have any experience with the new metallics but I can only find good reports about them. Vallejo seem to have a very active marketing department, they do a lot of sponsoring and ads.

The most fun you can havr is doing an arms race with a friend. Delete the points limits. The points limit is now your total sum of fully painted models (set the difficulty by selecting battle/parade ready). Getting mogged? Paint more points than your opponent then. Inevitably someone will eventually tap out and stop adding stuff, at that point you have your winner.
