was there a game you dropped because of a mechanic that was present on it
i recently dropped Expedition 33 because of the parry mechanic, the game is fun (not a jrpg or turn based) but the thing that made me drop it was parry being mandatory, and the game has not only 1 but 2 types of parry, the latter one shots your character.

the bad thing about this is that expedition 33 is probably winning goty and thus all turn based rpg's will now include a mandatory parry system.

What is wrong with people? It's a great game, but people are treating it like the second coming of Christ.
Everyone is blind to the problems of the game (bad performance, janky controls, linear level design, etc).
>Highest user score ever on Metacritic.
>"This is the first game that made me feel something"
>"In my 30 years of gaming, this is the first game I've cried with."
>"Best RPG in the last 20 years." They somehow seem to forget the existence of New Vegas, Mass Effect, Skyrim, BG3, Witcher and so on.
>"It is art that transcends gaming."

And why in God's name is there a parry system with a tighter window than Sekiro in a turn-based RPG? Also, some of the enemies have longer windups than Elden Ring bosses.
I know for a fact that if this game was made by Ubisoft or Square Enix, normies would have an opinion way different of it.
The music is peak though, I'll give them that.

I tried out all of the jarpigs you said were better than pic related and they all turned out to be worse games.
Time to admit it's all just nostalgia blinding you

By the end I put it in story difficulty and just rushed and ignored enemies, and I barely engaged with the side content. This game has a serious length and pacing issue. It's focused on the narrative but questions linger for way too long because the game is so fucking long, and I just wanted to see how everything resolved.
The combat itself is fun for a few hours but not for how long the game wants you to engage with it. I get designing the systems to allow for player freedom, but at some point all the micromanaging becomes a nuisance.

Still GotY though. Writing, music, art, all top tier, specially the writing, but I don't feel like ever playing it again.

Have you ever felt a feeling of nostalgia for a game immediately after beating it?
Like you enjoyed it so much and now that i's over you kinda just want to go for run 2 immediately, and carry over all your skills and knowledge to your new run?

For me it's pic related. I beat it a few hours ago, ate some dinner, had a shower, but already feel drawn to play it some more. It's a weird feeling I don't think I've had since the PS2.

GOTY 2025
Just finished this masterpiece. Honestly surprised by how hard the game hit me emotionally. Top feels moments for me had to be the gustave funeral scene and when the music hits as you're re-entering lumiere to fight true renoir

I don't even like JRPGs but holy fuck boys. Also, I feel empty now.
