Jesus was the closest to what God would want a "perfect" person to be in that particular point in time and space. If Jesus was a real person or a metaphor for what other people should strive to be is what you must choose to be your own truth.
Jesus is not God, he is a path that puts you closest to God. There are many other paths that put you closer to God. It's your responsibility to find them and choose one for yourself
