My game was running at like 7fps with horrific lag. I want to believe it was Anton's fault... but I'm 100% certain it's Nvidia's fault because it was causing my whole PC problems until I closed the game. And all of my problems started when I upgraded my driver away from a good stable one to play Nofield6. It's a deceptively good dogfighter. It pulls and turns about as well as a MiG-21 (because it IS an enlarged, twin-engine MiG-21 without the n*se intake) but it has gigaengines that grant it better sustained turn and energy retention.

the mi-24v is a pretty decent heli at 9.7. the p is exactly the same with a weird gun. the 5km missiles will get you killed a lot. it'll teach you how to dodge gun spaa though and a lot of good helicopter basics. it's good to learn on before you get the mi-35m.

I play basically the same way in every plane - take off sideclimb to below contrail altitude, turn about 90 degrees to put my team between myself and the enemy. This way I'm far from the first guy the enemies see, and if my team collapses within 30 seconds, I'm free to RTB and leave; on the other hand, if the match is actually fair, I'm in a good position to help out my teammates wherever needed and/or pick off distracted enemies. The only downside is that half the time it's the enemy's team time to collapse, I don't get to do anything, but that's a preferable alternative to the other playstyles where I'm far more likely to die early on.

If you're content with the F-104s for boom and zoom gameplay, then no. The F-106 is mainly for either desperate selling (note that hundreds of ching nigger bots are also doing this) or if you enjoy delta wing interceptors like the Drakens and Mirages.

Personally I am the latter, so I will grind it for the extra flavor of being able to enjoy that style of orbital swooping in the US tree. Even if the missiles are shitty.

There are a lot of mechanics to learn if you just jump straight into the deep end. "Grinding legit" is easier from the perspective that individual mechanics are gradually introduced along the timeline, but it's also harder in other aspects. For example at top tier it's trivial to acquire locks with radar and get kills with missiles because your radars are all pulse doppler radar with track while scan capability, head mounted displays, and giganigga missiles. At lower tiers you have to deal with shit like interference from ground clutter, you might not even have ACM mode, and you probably have shitty missiles that get distracted easily. At lower tiers you might be facing off against missiles without having any kind of countermeasures of your own. Then a BR above that your might have a pittance of countermeasures but at least your flares and chaff largely defeat what's thrown at them by just rolling your face on the keyboard. At top tier the missiles have counter-countermeasure capabilities. The flares and chaff still work, but you can't just roflspam them. Instead you need to deploy them at the appropriate time during the appropriate maneuvers.

Top tier is all about positioning and situational awareness. Skill expression largely comes from your defensive capabilities since offense is practically point and click. Novices overcommit, dive right into the furball, and then get slaughtered when multiple missiles hit them from different directions at the same time. With practice you can defeat most BVR missiles sent at you in a 1v1. The danger comes from getting tag-teamed because often the necessary maneuvers to avoid dying to one assailant don't work if you're defending from 2 or more from different directions at the same time.

A tip for a newfag: Turn around and run away a bit during the initial BVR clusterfuck. Things calm down a bit after the noobs finish running face first into the opening salvo.

You're probably not notching properly. If you're using your RWR to turn 90 instead of eyeballing it, then you need to point your wingtip towards the missile. The RWR's screen is a bit like a flat Atlas compared to a globe. A bit of distortion takes place when representing threats above and below you, which can offset the angles just enough to keep you from entering the doppler notch.

The top tier missiles also aren't just dumb. They have datalink and inertial navigation capabilities. If they lose radar lock, then they know approximately where to keep looking and will keep scanning where you "should" be while maintaining intercept course with your last known heading. If you fuckup and leave the notch, then the missile will reacquire lock. If you just hold the notch and do nothing then the inertial navigation might get lucky and get the missile close enough to intercept for the proximity fuse to get a kill. Upon entering the notch and chaffing, you also want to change elevation to throw off the inertial navigation. You can also try something like a split-S within the notch.

Additionally, if nobody is pressuring the opponent, then he might be maintaining datalink on you. Just because you're notching the missile doesn't mean that you're notching the plane. If the plane is maintaining lock, then it is feeding rough course correction to the missile. That's not enough for terminal phase guidance, but the proximity fuse can still get lucky. If you ever leave the notch for a moment then the missile will see you again because the plane is telling it precisely where it should try to look.

Avoid it in air RB, it's been fucked over by the time limit change that made high altitude climb fests go extinct. P-47's turbocharger only start offsetting its high drag and heavy weight at like 6km+ altitude when mechanically supercharged engines start to die out. Under that most fighters are better than you in essentially every way, including level speed. It's not as much of a brick as people say thanks to its massive wings and sturdy flaps so you can still dab on retards by bagging them in 1~2 turns but anyone who knows what they're doing will fly circles around you.
