Rumours say that the rampant yuri in the very first pv pissed off a bunch of horse owners and they rescinded their rights and pulled out all their horses after that which almost costed the project; the oguri/rudolf ice skating scene gets memed on a lot. Also the game from what they initially showed looked kinda shitty which might've helped. Either way the lead producer of the game ended up getting sacked from the project. Now that the project is a big success though they can get away with a lot more and owners who pulled out before are finally letting their horses be used, though a few owners still think uma is a big piece of shit and refuse to ever let their horses get added.

Not really, but cygays also know what they're doing with the sprinkles of bait here and there across the different anime and game event stories while also having a ton of uma training stories have the uma be for (You) with the majority of players being male (though of course there's plenty of self-insert female trainer x uma fanart as well). Cygays wants to pander to multiple demographics and it's working as seen by the wide variety of fan content and engagement. Also it's been commonly parroted that it was somehow the yurifag parts of the PV that offended owners and whatnot but we'll never know the truth behind it since no owner ever has or ever will make anything resembling a public statement about it
