IV is the worst by far and it's not even a contest.
SJ has the best combat (press-turn is boring as fuck) even if the dungeon design never evolves or gets interesting, same as Nocturne where you're just running through boring grid hallways fighting a bunch of filler mobs (though at least Nocturne had some fun puzzles like the Obelisk, can't even remember if SJ had puzzles or anything remotely involving another activity). VV is the only one there that truly has good level design. You have an actual jump button so there's platforming with a good emphasis on verticality in the overworld with lots of exploration for secrets and stuff to interact with and no shitty random encounters. Same applies to the dungeons. It's an proper 3D game instead of the bastardization jokes called IV and Nocturne which are just 2D games but played in 3D.
