I'll agree that there are a ton of people who claim to be Christian but absolutely do not live a life that would be considered worthy of salvation. If you WORSHIP the idols, then that is idolatry. If you use it as some sort of medium, that is a form of idolatry. If I wear a cross, I don't worship the cross per say. I personally use it as a reminder of the sacrifice and victory over death that Christ brings to us, and give the Glory to God, not to the object.
