We've been over this a billion fucking times, WB didn't promote it for fuckall and most people weren't even aware it was in theaters. Like a month ago some anon even said he only saw it in theaters at the time by pure happenstance and that his parents weren't even aware it was a movie until they were literally at the theater and saw the poster. It made its money back because of reruns and DVD rentals and apparently its re-screening a while back did really well too.

Steven Universe was literally a board driven cartoon, it had no script writers. You can google this in five seconds. In fact that was part of the problem with it, because it was trying to be an overarching story but the boarders were given almost complete control over how episodes were handled.
