more powerful hardware, more elegant AI structures, we don't need to invent anything we don't have already, it's just too impractical at the moment

we're going to the same process with AI and robotics, except AI could help achieve scientific breakthroughs in other fields that might open a whole different can of worm
what's clear is that AI is not going away, even if we sober up about it, the inertia is too powerful already
