Nah he said in Kai visual collection interview that the sequel to Kai is being developed in parallel with sky remake and since they don't really need to write the script for the remake, they can concetrate on Kai 2 script which they finalized earlier this year.
Guess we'll see if Kai 2 will be next year game or not in a few months.

>Why did you choose to remake Trails in the Sky now? What was the key to a simultaneous global release?

>Kondo: It is mainly based on four considerations.

>Firstly, the kiseki series as a whole is heading towards its final climax, and we hope to allow more new players to smoothly enter the series from the origin before the "final peak", so we chose the starting point of the series, "Trails in the Sky", as the best entry point.

>Secondly, the original game has been on sale for 20 years, and the graphics and system are a bit outdated. Players have been calling for a remake for the past decade, and the team hopes to respond to this expectation.

>Thirdly, as the series producer and president, I've been working on Trails in a World, now the 14th installment. I feel like the team has become too accustomed to the pace of development within the Trails series. I hope the developers will re-evaluate their pace, and by remaking earlier titles, they'll be forced to rethink the nature of scale, pacing, and fun.

>Fourthly, this game is easier to achieve global synchronization because the script and system framework are fixed, and there is past experience in multilingual localization. Content can be shared with partners in various places and localization can be promoted in the early stages of development, which naturally makes it suitable for simultaneous release in terms of process.

>I got the feeling that this game deepened Agnès’ and Elaine’s feelings for Van. Will the next game provide a clear conclusion?

>Kondo: What will happen is something we can discuss after next game. What I can say is that I don’t expect a situation where it’s up to the player’s choice, like in the Cold Steel arc. In Cold Steel we used that system to show student life and the bonding with friends. For the Calvard arc we want to introduce another system for personal relationships.

>This is off topic, but the connect event that delves into Elaine's relationship with Van is also something that should have been done in the main story. It's an episode where we learn why Van likes sweet things... and even that had to be turned into Connect.

>Right now, there are so many elements that need to be discussed in the main story as we approach the conclusion, and it's a difficult decision to make.

>That's why in this game, you can use points in Black Garden Castle to see everything from the first playthrough.

>With so many different entertainment options available these days, it's not guaranteed that people will play through the game multiple times, and it would be a loss for us if people couldn't see what we've worked so hard on, so we made it this way.

Considering how popular Agnes is in Japan I doubt Kondo would make her lose or won't make her a romance option. Unless Kondo bows his knee to the westoids.

Who at Falcom thought it was a good idea to make the antagonists of Kai not to appear before the game is mostly over and let us do generic filler side quests 90% of the game and call it plot progression? What iliterate intern wrote that shit? Even AI would actually attempt to at least write a semblance of a story. At this point you can use Falcom games as a negative example for young scenario writers how not to write a JRPG. Holy fuck.
