I unironically think it's possible we'll get a naval battles mod, it's possible with the modding tools we currently have
I know that sounds schizo but hear me out
Modders are (or were) actively developing naval combat for Attila's Medieval Kingdoms 1212 overhaul mod
Warhammer modders have already been adding magical naval units like the Tomb Barque, original Thunderbarge mod, the Black Ark Landship, the Norscan Longship, the Tzeentch flying towers, or all the ship mods 99999999 added to Vampire Coast
And of course we have ship-like game units like CA's Thunderbarge and the Landship
So we already have models and units that are effectively ships, just on land
So what do we need to have actual naval battles?
We need to take those naval units who basically already exist, and give them the ability to carry other units, and give them naval maps and naval landing maps to fight on
But we already have the ability to do ALL of that
We've been getting tons of new battle maps via mods, including new siege maps some of which even have harbours or coastlines
We already have unit mods with the ability to pick up and carry other units, and drop them off somewhere else. There's a dwarf gyrocopter transport mod that does this
We even have actual concept art and unit cards for naval units from Warhammer 1, before CA scrapped the concept, and we have Warhammer Fantasy naval games like Man o War and Dreadfleet to more units draw from
All we would need to do is bring all these things together and we'd have working naval battles
