It doesn't prove anything about what is or isn't true, but it philosophically is freezing in place those who are clinging to an attempt to the illusion of control over their "certainty" of what is real.

this is a great question, and it shows you haven't fallen into the intellectually lazy position of doxastic involuntarism (the idea that we can't choose what we believe), which many internet atheists seem to adopt without realizing.
you should approach the Christian claim like you would any other, weigh the evidence.
if it's a live hypothesis (meaning it's not obviously false or incoherent) and you find no defeaters, then yes, you can choose to believe it.
but to do that honestly you need to investigate your own epistemology (how we come to truth)
basically answer these questions (for yourself, not me):

>what makes a belief justified?
>do you assume naturalism by default, and if so, why?
>are your standards of proof consistent across claims, or selectively applied?
if you're serious about truth, you owe it to yourself to examine not just what you believe, but why you believe anything at all.
