People often forget that while the EU and TCW did some work towards helping people get over their rabid hatred of anything prequel related, the lion's share that reversed mainstream opinion was disney themselves showing everyone how much worse it could be.
For people to "re-evaluate" the ST, someone would not only have to make something even worse, they'd have to do it in a way that's so mean spirited that people also despise the company more than disney and consider them a lesser evil.
