Asa is obssesed with sacrificing her life to Denji because of her trauma with her father.
Denji has never seen anything in Asa beyond the fact that he founds her fuckable.
Its a shit ship.

Big Lebowski and everything is pointless means that the story can only end in two ways.
Either the apocalypse is inevitable so the main characters actions are pointless.
Or the apocalypse is a solved problem so the main characters actions are pointless.

I love Asa! but I would be lying if I said I'm not a bit let down by the development of her character so far.
Coincidentally and in an unrelated manner, I watched Fight Club right before I started reading Part 2, with all the references, I ended up projecting enormous expectations over Asa's character and Part 2 as a whole believing it would follow a similar path — not the Narrator/Tyler thing that people over fixate upon — but in-depth display of the transformative inner psyche of our unrealized protagonist as they are exposed to fame, violence and power. Instead of a young salaryman in search of something spiritual, have a teenage girl under the familiar optics and themes of Chainsaw Man: A physically, emotionally and spiritually impoverished teenager that clings to life in search of fulfilment and love despite her unfortunate circumstances.
A character defined by divorce — in contrast to Denji being defined by union — split between human and devil, indulgence and morality, good and evil, forced on some level to compromise with genuine evil in order to survive but deep inside coveting a kind heart that seeks to do good in a cynical world that always treated her poorly. All while resisting the ever corrupting influence of her own devil powers/side that severs the ties to her old life one sacrifice at a time, inevitably resulting in detachment and the loss of one's identity, but ultimately the discovery of the true self.
Needless to say, I was immediately engrossed, completely sold on her character right from her introduction, I fully embraced the idea of Asa being our new protagonist in back in early Part 2 and feel a bit sad to see her not throughly explored. I don't wish to fuck her, nor do I see myself in her nor do I relate to her struggles, I like Asa because I genuinely believe she had the grounds to be one of the most unique and fascinating characters in nu-shonen.
I-I mean, she's cute and should marry me or something!

I'm...inclined to agree, but I'll wait untin the story is fully finished to give final verdict. I feel like the only way for the story to redeem Asa's character more or less is to effectively give her a "Control Arc finale" where she receives extensive focus while being completely alone, and even then I would be bothered by her character not being organically developed throughout the story instead of cramming everything in the finale.

I don't think Denji will die for sure, but it is kinda true that the plot has reached a point where it can't progress without Pochita's weaponization, Denji can't really stop War, he can't erase Death either and the villains are fully aware of that.
But Part 2 has been extremely unpredictable, so who knows. We still haven't had a twist on par with Pochita's true identity and Makima's plan from Part 1.

That's a hottake? I guess it is nowadays...
Asa and Denji's relationship is obviously central to Part 2, but the *point* is still unclear as the main themes also are. It could be that they are soulmates, most would even assume that they are, but it could also be something else. Per example, he could be using their relationship to drive the point that "two lefts don't make a right" as two broken people that are similar ar not necessarily good for each other and that would be an equally reasonable assumption to make as their problems compound to make both of their lives hell. It's true that the parallels Asa has with Denji vastly outnumber the parallels between any other character in the story and Asa has far more screen time than any girl Denji interacted with, stands to reason that there is a relevant point to be made with her character, she even uniquely received the moniker of "Chainsaw Woman", but what does it mean to be Chainsaw Man/Woman? that's the real question.

Really lame that Asa/Yoru went back to their school uniform, the tank top + tight pants + loose hair made them look much more mature, prettier and imposing.
