most people just haven't cared because normalfags ate it up when gigakike corps like EA started doing it as much as they could, most memorably with the on disc dlc for ME3
Nintendo announcing dlc for a game before its out that we've also barely seen any footage of is only about a half step further than where we've already been
I think the pokemon one is getting attention because its clearly a main feature of the story getting chopped off and offered to be glued back on which even for day 1 dlc is a relatively rare move to make
day 1 dlc was typically selling you side story shit or random gear you wont care about past midgame
most companies had the wherewithal to leave story additions for less obviously predatory timeframes but Nintendo is rightfully assured they don't have to care about something like that, the Virtual Boy peripheral pre orders are already sold out after all
