You know how failing Gacha games will have a Persona 5 collab to try and save the game. The same thing basically happened to Smash and Mario Kart during the Wii U days. Profits were in the shitter and Nintendo needed some way to get their big hitters to sell. Ultimate was made with this in mind which is why they had a ballot and added the kitchen sink in terms of third party characters (including Persona 5 funnily enough). Nintendo is not in dire straights anymore so it will probably go back to being about Nintendo characters, just as Mario Kart went back to being about Mario (remember when everyone though the next Mario Kart would be Nintendo Kart lol)

This will probably happen given what happened with Mario Kart World and the Nintendo characters. Nintendo was in a very bad position in 2014 which is how Smash went from a "Nintendo All Star" game in 2014 to adding Cloud and making a Ballot for the follow-up where they turn it into MUGAN. They don't have to do it now so it's probably back to Nintendo, or at least very curtailed like Brawl was.

lol it wont. Most people are in for Smash because of the Nintendo characters. Having Mario, Pikachu, and DK on the box goes a long way for sales. It's only really Smash people that would get upset from the third parties being gone (about half of them only being added in Ultimate)
