I think OP is partially right however what I really want is to just fade away into obscurity with the backdrop of the corporate machinations that drive this consumer basedciety we live in. A constant hum of stability where I am not poor but not rich but I also don’t have to worry. I don’t wish to be a part of this world but I don’t want to leave it. I don’t think I will ever meet someone and get married, but I don’t think if I did I’d be all that thrilled either way. When I do socialise with people I work with, I dont get anxious or self conscious, but I don’t feel like there’s anything worth saying either, I’ll just be present, listen, have a drink, maybe throw in a couple of words every now and again. I think ultimately what I want is to go NPC mode but be genuinely interested in nothing at all, no wholesomeness, no degeneracy, no opinion on pop media or politics, just nothing.

These people aren't concerned with whether or not 'men are reading'. They are, but as one of the authors admits, the novels that men are reading consists of classic literary fiction, 20th century sci-fi/fantasy genre fiction, and on the young adult men end they're reading webnovel/light novel slop.

The ACTUAL issue they have with it is that men are going off the reservation of what the publisher mafia wants them to read. They're not reading whomever the fuck 'Sally Rooney' and 'Ocean Vuong' (is that a real name) are and it makes them seethe with anger after having spent decades trying to take over the industry only to realise that nobody outside of their bubble gives a fuck.

The increase in these articles lately makes me think they're getting more and more desperate to try to shame men into reading dogshit nepobaby NY Times and Oprah recommendations in an attempt to 'win men' from the evil right wing -- as if they'll become bona-fide zogbots if only they real some moronic tripe written by a 23 year old MFA.
