You straight up cant run into someone doing something in the world and spend time together naturally because the framework for that doesnt exist.
I play a lot of Ragnarok Online where thats completely the norm. Grouping up speeds up kills speeds up exp and drops so its a given.
Hell even in fucking Cataclysm classic I met some guy in a quest and we raped out two expansions worth of content in one night. Didnt play much with him after that but it was something at least.
The only time I ever had an experience like that in FF14 was in Bozja when I was grinding those coins. I formed a group of people clapping mobs that dropped them and many joined and left naturally and we kept going for many hours. That was nice.
