I've been increasingly disturbed by how prevalent it is for cops to slap handcuffs on nonviolent offenders or even just suspects. It's so normalized, but I swear it wasn't originally like that. Handcuffs were a necessary restraint for a guy that was trying to kill people around him or to resist and run away. Overwhelmingly, a lot of these petty criminals, white collar criminals, or just suspects of crime will just submissively follow the officer and get the car and obey any other orders given, and DO NOT require restraining. But they get the cuffs anyway, ever time. It's disgusting; a humiliation ritual and intentional traumatizing.

Similarly, I've been seeing a lot of instances of somebody reporting a crime, and then being arrested (and put into handcuffs) as a potential suspect for that same crime they reported, and then detained and interrogated for hours or even days. It's pure evil. Makes you wonder if the plan is to disincentivize people from calling the cops at all, when it only ever backfires.
