>and scientific progress during the 19th and 20th century made the Christian God irrelevant
Not true, science was always used as a method to learn how God created the universe/ the mechanisms God put in place to explain how things work. It was understood that humans did not create anything through scientific research it was simply learning how things work of what God already put in place. Down the road science became corrupted changing from discovering how God's creation works into man claiming they created through discovery and it turned into a process of attempting to disprove God's existence. Essentially man's hubris corrupted scientific progresses original purpose. Ironically you saw some of the greatest leaps in every field of science when scientists explored with a pure heart of trying to explain how God's creation works instead of scientific discovery for their own vanity.
>People just can't start believing in magical stories that goes against reason
The entire theory of evolution is built on magical thinking an lack of reasoning. At its core it is basically everything just magically happened on its own and despite all of the complex mechanical and biomechanical processes it all happened by chance. If that isn't basically believing in magic then I don't know what is.
