It's why weekly manga is fucking exploding currently and why every game has content updates - devs and artists figured out that it's way easier to keep your work in the public consciousness by publishing small bursts of content instead of releasing a finished work all at once into the ether. It makes people do your marketing for you by word of mouth.
It's shitty but it works. Just look at the 50 fucking Deltarune threads we get daily now because chapters 3 and 4 just came out
