thats true, but thats more of a recent thing, that keeps getting worse and worse. the centralization just keeps getting worse here, you have Sofia which is basically western europoor standart of living now, you have Plovdiv and Varna that are livable if you get a decent job(tho the wages are usually way smaller than in Sofia while homes and general stuff cost almost the same nowadays) and maaaaaaaybe Burgas and Stara Zagora, but thats stretching it. Outside of that is a desert with dying smaller cities that just move to the biggest one from the above near them.
Wasnt the case before tho, I can speak mainly for Varna since I was raised there, it was always considered the "best city to live in" here, and used to mogg Sofia in almost all paragraphs. Complete fucking retardation of the local government for 2 decades in a row utterly destroyed it. Same case for the other few big cities. Altho to be fair, Varna is getting better in the last few years especially, its the only region with growing population aside for Soyfia.
But the biggest issue is that everything is still done mainly for Sofia. Sofia needs a new road/metro line/kinder garden/school/whatever? Its financed with the national money... Varna needs the same? Nope, only the municipality's budget, maybe in 10 years, you'll collect enough
Doesnt help that the fucking Sofia-Varna highway STILL hasnt been completely built, 50 years later, which would bring LOTS of investments here
