Gaming fundamentally broke around 2014 or so and basically became a series of pyramid schemes where the primary incentive was becoming a marketer for games, rather than the games actually being a product of any sort of value as a game to be played.
In addition: There's a massive problem of "scale" for current gen titles that makes it basically mandatory to afford the scam of how much marketing your game "legit" can cost.
