That's only the first 2000 hours, endgame PvM is a world apart from the simple "click and wait" style at the start. Like a totally different game.

But really, they've been doing a decent job at bridging the cap between starter and endgame combat, by introducing a lot more early game bosses with actual mechanics (eg Scurrius, then Moons).
Jagex should probably add some early game spec weapons so players actually use that mechanic, I've seen a lot of these new players still never, ever use one after like 6+ months playing (eg MadSeason).

RuneScape is alright but I prefer Progress Quest

He should get proselyte or that newer set, prayer pots, superantipoison pots and a dwarf cannon. Then kill those bigger kalphites for more xp.

Runescape/OSRS today is built on two things - childhood nostalgia and addiction. Other than that it's laughably boring and repetitive to play - any player will happily admit grinding, doing monotonous and repetitive tasks, is where the vast majority of gameplay lies.

It relies on the same psychology of rich people who continue obsessing over driving up the number in their bank account up, except it offers a far more accessible way of doing so by driving up fake numbers in a fake game. The popularity and "success" of gambling in RS, either through the former duel arena or just through betting on what a fake toy horsey will say, exemplifies just how common addictive personalities are amongst players.

Even if you're only into it for the community, why? There's other communities full of people who I promise are better than an addictive 24-year-old browser game. I know boomers like to rant about video games are a waste of time, but I genuinely can't stress enough how much of a drag this game is on your time and energy. All that time spent fletching arrows or burning logs is real time in the real world that you could have spent doing something actually productive and impressive. Learn how to play an instrument. Work out. Go on hikes. Anything else.

The appeal of classic Runescape is how it leans into simulation elements. They kinda ruined it with the grand exchange and rs3 gatcha cancer but it originally had very interesting social dynamics at play with real player trade, scamming and wilderness fights.
It was actually very immersive to go off on your own to build up your power and fortune and then run into other players at random to interact with, sort of darksoulsian if you will. The clan shit is gay

You'd get people standing around in weird places trying to sell you things and you never knew if you should trust them, not many games can replicate that specific sort of dynamics. Crazy how they tried to move away from the "dark social" appeal of it

1. Runescape's balance tries to keep content relevant at all times. No matter what you're doing, you're getting a least something out of it. Even dead shit like trouble brewing which they refuse to bring up to the standards in 2025 is needed for an achievement diary step.
2. Runescape gives you micro goals for everything, which means the game is on like 8 constant treadmills at once. The game tries to avoid you grinding in one area for too long by giving you different subgoals to complete.

By the way, clue scrolls tie into both perfectly and if you want unlimited stackable clues you're stupid and shouldn't be able to vote.

It really is a deep, foundational problem with modern OSRS. Almost all skilling has been made functionally worthless except for diary requirements, and even high level PVM is infested with them. The top leaderboards for bosses are almost all bots, and the insane GP they flood the game with devalues items for real players. I must agree with this post. Boss and enemy loot tables have increased in value way too much without skilling rewards having risen in commensurate amounts. Not only that the actual real drops that you'd normally want to do bosses are so obscenely rare that the casual player has near zero chance to even see them unless they farm it for hours on end. it charm, style and somewhat fun exploration questing without any handholding

The only thing I hated in Runescape was the leveling of stupid crafting skills for quests

I started played "classic" RuneScape in 2001 when it had 2 servers. It's fucking wild seeing it still going over 24 years later and getting 250k peak concurrent players.

Nothing disillusioned me quite so much as seeing that stake (oh sorry rscasino or whatever it was called, hosted on stake webservers) had like 40,000 bots just running matches 24/7 before they removed duel arena. I don't think even half of the players are real anymore.

I mostly play to bot and sell gp. IT's a lot harder nowadays because the value of gold has cratered to nothing, but when bonds were like 8-10m, I was making a few hundred bucks a month, and those accounts are still active now.

The game play is fine the music, the mechanics its comfy.
Its not something i play much but ill get the hanging for it when i just wanna mindlessly grind something out with a few beers.

Now watching someone do this you literally must have a hole in your head holy shit i don't care what personality the streamer has.
