maelle's ending is so unfathomably based they had to force all the shitty caveats about the canvas being an hourglass to pull the wool over the normgroids.

the fact they made maelle's ending so haunting just elevates it imo. the monochrome filter, everybody's smiles looking so offputting(gustave in particular), the random kid whose parents we don't know(i like to imagine maelle mounted verso vigorously), the music, the opera, maelle's broken visage, & of course verso facing off against the piano in what mirrors an ancient greek tragedy.
in terms of presentation & thematic callbacks, it blows the verso ending out of the water.
