Your point isn't wrong. But again, I just think Europe's peoples are so mixed that these distinctions lose much of their meaning, they were Vikings, then French, and later even English. That's what European peoples are: all connected and blended together.
Since Latin disappeared, who could possibly claim to be its "true successor"? Even linguists can't say, why? Because each language evolved in its own way. That's what European peoples are. identities are blurry, and No one can truly claim ownership over an ancient language or culture.
