>its clearly the most popular angle for megatron,
It's not? Only IDW fans like it, and their comic got cancelled, Earthspark got cancelled that also used that angle, and One flopped. The IDW version is clearly, not popular, writers just keep pushing it because they're cunts

You're partly right. Aladdin is one of the few Disney movies that plays out as a traditional hero's story aimed at men which is why it remains very popular with both men and women alike.

>poor nobody falls into power in his quest to become a somebody, wins the heart of the princess, and fights against the evil vizier/wizard who plots to take over the kingdom

Media (namely adventure media for men) keeps trying to make all characters into role models/overly relatable/aspirational ever since it was found that women are the world's largest consumers. When coupled with cries for diversity, it created a new problem where

>the antagonists are expected to be women and/or emotionally vulnerable
>but the antagonists still can't be wholely Pure Evil because it might piss off the women projecting onto them or get producers in trouble for perhaps making marginalized groups look bad

So that's how you get stuff like Steven Universe where "nobody is a bad guy", but I'd argue that this all started with Wicked's massive popularity and the trend among some Disney fans to whitewash the villains
