I really do think Syberia is a masterpiece. The music, the visuals, the dialog (might be cheesy at times though, maybe a bit unnatural), the story, the characters, everything is just so well crafted individually and also blends together so well. It's also a labor of love, I do believe the people working on it were There's a warmth emanating from this piece. Of course, that could be my own subjectivity seeing as I played it during my formative years but still.
The gameplay aspect of it I also had a hard time with, and the first time I completed it was with a walkthrough but I was like 10 years old or something. But revisiting it as an adult was a whole nother experience and made me appreciate the thing way more.
But to your point, I don't think I can counter it. Either you can stomach the point and clickness or you can't. I wouldn't say there's much pixel hunting and the puzzles make sense in general.
I do think you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you're even only slightly interested in Syberia and you won't give it a chance.
I'd say start playing it, see if you like the setting and the things unrelated to gameplay and if you get stuck with a puzzle then use a walkthrough to get past it. But don't do it for every puzzle, maybe come up with a rule like, "After 10 minutes of fucking about and not getting anywhere that's when I look at the walkthrough".
Do NOT look at a let's play. Play it yourself, in however manner.
PS: it does peak early, Valadilene is my favorite location but the entire game is just lovely.
