I've had plenty of people murdered around me and I never really measure "how close I was" with them in regards to how others think. Truth is there's tonnes of people around me who see my as only a passing acquaintance that would be just as freaked out if I was murdered.
I've had enough "acquaintances" murdered to know society doesn't do jack shit when people are killed in cold blood. Really the only people that murder peiple in cold blood are people with nothing to lose.
Same goes with suicide. They just put the body in the bag and carry on. People are freaked out by it, but there's so much red tape around how society functions that looking for solace is impossible.
People who are murdered are just seen as a statistic, and people who take their lives by their own hand even more so.
