Tarantulas are Expendable (3) anonchama. They're literally worthless to kill, if you'd ever score VP for any reason when killing an expendable unit you subtract the expendable value from the result.

If your vanguard value is below 4 you get nothing. You also not only get -3 from first blood you actually waste it by shooting the Tarantulas first.
