This stuff is actually all very new. Sodomy was one of the worst crimes in most criminal justice systems up until very, very recently. Pornography addiction really wasn't a thing, and it was basically impossible to produce porn in the time period the game took place. Paint was very expensive, and painting something lewd, or even a smiling woman could endanger one's reputation, livelihood, and freedom.
Let me drill this home for you. People had to pay penance for painting a smiling woman. Sodomy was punishable by death. You couldn't do gay stuff, because you'd have a near 100% chance of getting dunked for trying to bum someone if anyone found out, so people couldn't even be gay. Having FOUR gay people in a single small town is fucking absurd. Hell having four gay people in a small town in the region today is unlikely.
