You should read about the lives and accounts of the contemporary Orthodox Saints. We don't listen to the Church out of blind faith or solely out of distrust of ourselves... really it's about the factual matter of truth that people do become transfigured. If anything you should take that from this conversation, because reading their lives and accounts will help you in more ways than just a dry theological text. In this case it's real people who did physical things and radically altered the people they came in contact with.
