I have sold my car. It was a very nice fun, sporty car which I had a lot of joy with. I did some nice trips to scotland and it was very reliable. I now have a large sum to spend on a camper of some kind. Maybe a stealth camper, an older vw transporter, a cool japanese micro minivan. Needs to fit a bike and a few items like my telescope, cooking equipment, portable shower and bike maintenance(bike stand, pump etc).
Sad to sell it but I have moved on. Not into the hooliganism of fast cars racing around town anymore or showing off to qt's. Now has to be time to grow up, do adventures, ride a lot and finally chase the WT races which I would love to watch and experience in person. I will try to chase the tour next year living like a monk. Depending on the vehicle it should be very cheap and manageable to visit the tour.

>>150032969>>150032817I bought it 2 years ago when I was working 70hr weeks. I was working 2 jobs one point. So I had that asset and it's worth a good amount, didn't depreciate because not everyone wants a sterile new car. I looked after it well. I also have saved some money from spacker bennies. That gives me budget of around 8000. Considering I still am to build up new bike, I want a garmin watch, I need to try new saddles and some other things, I've done well to hold off and save.
Considering this sort of thing, it's very affordable. Only concern is fuel efficiency and service costs. Otherwise micro camper like Fiat doblo, citeron berlingo or another small van based vehicle.

next week is my first week of holiday in 2 (TWO) years - going on a 5 day bikepacking trip through Austria, I am BEYOND excited
>>150034099Cycling is pretty boring. The crux is that dicking around for 60 minutes doesn't get you anywhere physically, but anything longer is boring and you really need some sort of motivation. The older I get, the more amazed I am by pros who keep riding past retirement and the more I understand the guys who stop doing sports and get fat. This is a real 180ยฐ turnaround from my teenage years.
>>150034436>first week of holiday in 2 (TWO) yearswhy did you waste your off days for 2 years?
>>150033614yeah, but it's the luteal phase (the week before your period starts) that is more difficult to cycle in. You feel exhausted and despondent, Demi spoke about it at length in a recent interview. The week before your period you are at your weakest. Then if you are predisposed to bad cramps, days 1-3 of your period can be uncomfortable especially in your quads and lower back, but the overall feeling of weakness isn't there. More like doms.
>>150034444if you only want to do sports for 60 minutes sell your bike and run

>>150034475I know I know, running is the better sport for me with that mindset. You get to experience nature, you aren't stuck in traffic with crazed cagies, you stay close to home and not in the godforsaken hinterland, you only need a pair of shoes...

>>150034610Running looks great, nice and cozy. Late evening runs with a head torch. Seems far more simple and you could switch off easier than cycling.
>>150034646Some athletes lose them on their own, it's called exercise amenorrhoea.
>>150034646Taking a pill to suppress your periods is unhealthy in the long run. It can result in bone degeneration and early osteoporis. Effectively it becames the same symptoms as RED S. Taking the pill can also lead to blood clots in the legs. It is something you don't want to take for this reason unless necessary (like you have endometriosis or PCOS for example). Most women will be healthier without the pill and you feel better mentally (and feel very stronger than normal when it's your ovulation week). There is recent studies lately on making the training scheduled in such a way to take advantage of the female hormonal schedule (which can be relatively easily tracked). E.g. hard workouts in ovulation week with rest weeks occuring during end of luteal phase beginning of period.
>>150034646messing with hormonal system isn't a good idea 2bh, men or women. no one knows what unintended side effects it could have

>>150040430Bike market rn:
Roadbike: sub 300โฌ old steel bikes down tube shifters hard big gears
300โฌ to 750ish range wild mix from absolute dogshit to 2000-2010 era alu road bikes - mech gears 3x frontrings cables all over
750 to 1500โฌ rim break carbon bikes mechanical. Sometimes very light good value high spec groups (red/dura ace) beware of old carbon rims/wheels
approachin 2kโฌ first decent disk break modern road bikes, internal cable routing more tire clearance etc.
over 2kโฌ u might find deals on roadbikes with carbon wheels buy new try in shop category or know what you want buy from fred who just got himself the pogi tour colnao y5rs.
Most important get a fitting bike, fitting saddle. Weight doesnt matter only everything over 9kg feels a bit clunky/slow. If you want to ride rampas get small/light gears. Hardman aint fun to start
>>150040618It is fairly important, but riding a smallish frame can be fine if you are flexible and switch to a longer stem. How tall are you?
>>150040494good deal
>>150040618a bit too small is no problem (long stem), too big on the other hand...
>>150040628I have started with 53/39 11-28, 9.2 kg. Rode it for 10 years.
It builds character.
>>150040745as did i until it was stolen. However, i would never recommend anyone aiming for 8%+ using those relic gears. I still feel my knees just thinking about those first few climbs
>>150040628>get small/light gearsI'm riding a city bike with 21 gears. How difficult would the change be? How many gears does a road bike have?
>>150040827I wasn't completely honest; After I got into bike tech and maintenance, I upgraded to 54/38 11-30.
Still a great commuter bike with "gravel" tires (30mm).
>>15004093421 = 3x7?
most likely a dirt cheap crank with riveted chainrings...
>road bike gearswhere should we start...
let's say the STI era (combined brake and shift levers) started with 2x8 in the mid 90s, and now we are at 2x12.
>>150040949gotta max out those rear derailleurs, mine maxxed out at 25mm sadly and its gone anyway.
>>150040934dont worry about the gearing too much unless you plan on riding up very steep hills. Rather focus on a good fit. Watch videos, try some online calcs or give us your height+ inseam so we can rec some sizing
>>150040827Facts. I "downgraded" to 11-34, what a fantastic decision. I still rock 11-30 at home because it has less steps for flat terrain, but in the mountains that 34 has bailed my knees out of so many hours of stress
>>150040934if you're riding 21 gears, you're probably riding 3x7 which is pretty heinous to ride
Riding a modern road group (which will be 2 gears in the front and 10-12 in the back) will be a revelation in terms of smoothness and comfort in basically any terrain
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seP2DPqd0o8
>>150041057I just "upgraded" to 11-36 and excited to try on my local rampas
>>150040934>>150040745Usually, 2 chainrings in the front and 10 to 12 cogs in the back if it is somewhat modern.
You probably have a triple chainset in the front and 7 cogs in the back, which means your easiest gear is something like 24 in the front and 28 in the back. 24/28 = 0.86
Oldberts easiest gear was 39 in the front, 28 in the back. 39/28 = 1.39 - much harder
The easiest gear on modern entry-level road bikes is usually around 1 to 1.

The countdown begins
>The Rog Cycling Club and Pogi Team, in cooperation with the Municipality of Komenda, are preparing a big spectacle in Komenda. Since 2019, Komenda has been hosting the Tadej Pogaฤar Cup in the form of a criterium race, where competitors compete for points every few laps. Until now, the race has taken place in the Komenda industrial zone and has been scheduled between the time trial and the national championship road race at the end of June.
>This year, Pogaฤar's criterium will grow, as the organisers have managed to raise the level of the race by attracting some cycling stars with the help of the now four-time winner of the Tour de France.
>Criterium de Pogi will feature Pogaฤar, Michael Mathews, Isaac Del Toro, Tim Wellens, Valerio Conti, Eddie Dunbar, Matteo Trentin, Pavel Sivakov, Luka Mezgec, Matej Mohoriฤ, Domen Novak, Matevลพ Govekar

>>150047050i'm sure that wellens stays with uae. i wonder if there's a team willing to invest in kooij (not enough opportunities at visma). also curious to see where vacek is going.
>>150047562Vacek needs to leave, everyone who isn't pedersen, milan, skjelmose or ciccone need to leave. They rarely get any opportunities and Vacek wins a stage of the giro if he wasn't shackled to pedersen. On the flip side, he was a driving force in those wins as a team mate and did extremely well. He'll stay, I'm certain. Or he'll go to UAE.
I thought the Kooij to decathlon was a done deal though? Curious I#ve heard nothign about that for a while now. Carapaz should be interesting. He's done well but hasn't delivered the big win they expected from him. Now they have a potential GC rider in Healy they could probably comfortably invest elsewhere. Basically the entire list are riders who are from the previous generation. I wonder how many will be resigned or transfer to equally big teams. Like Costa, not sure what they're getting from him at this point other than experience. Majka too, he's still looking great but they have young riders who'd bite their hands off for the same opportunity to slave at the GT's. Buchmann should retire. Probably going to be a pretty considerable change in guard in the peloton I think.

Porn now needs verification? Then why the fuck is booze constantly advertised with gambling? When youtube ad blocker doesn't work it's constant adverts from booze and gambling. All over buses and banners in public.

>>150048975Dude was quite talented. Just a gigantic weakmind
>>150048811porn companies and sites are mostly american, so it doesn't really hurt us banning them but I'm sure gambling will be limited in the future
>>150049046They had a big drive against tobacco here for a few years, saying they'd ban this current generation being able to buy tobacco for life essentially even if they're over 18. If you're born after 2008 for example, no tobacco ever. They of course back tracked because that's incredibly stupid and short sighted. Tobacco also brings in an enormous amount of tax as you say, so these industries are a net benefit to the government. The video I watched, the dude was 2 million in the hole and it wasn't even his money. It was borrowed from friends and family and random people, as well as enormous loans. He was about to kill himself over it.
The amount of economic activity due to gamblers is just incredible, alcohol tax is ever increasing, as is tobacco tax. Alcohol has gone up considerable amount from when I regularly drank, so 2 years and part of that is inflation as well as tax. Sugar tax is now a thing here, as well as 'junk food' taxes but don't let that stop big fast food outlets from advertising of course.
Internet is fucked, it's uncontrollable and is destroying society. Online discussion is not however, it's the slop through social media, the predatory use of internet through scams, endless advertising, social engineering etc. It's ironic that the discussion about these topics are targeted, not the actual damaging content.
Internet is dead anyway, rarely do I find genuine media made to inform you without there being a sub message in the form of advertisement or social engineering. Youtube seems to have made any form of natural content very difficult to find, instead the feed is just adverts in the form of journalism. And that is basically what journalism/news is on the internet these days. Information harvesting, social engineering and advertisements. Cookies are now locked, so you'd have to pay to decline the cookies on a lot of sites. Nice side step. Internet is completely fucked.
>>150049166Gambling makes the government a lot of money as well. Porn doesn't because only people that cycle without helmets pay for porn and the government only gets a small cut anyway.

Fucking seething that the psychiatrist suggested I have to try non-stim ADHD meds which are significantly less effective because 'history of bipolar'. They're basically anti-depressants which I will absolutely under no circumstances take. Cost 700 quid. Needs the other psychiatrist to send her information, who discharged me last month because I didn't respond to the medicines well. Feeling extremely frustrated and pissed off with it all. If I cannot function properly all year round I am fucked. Give me some baby dose stim to try and we'll see. Zero history of violence or shit like that.

Day 4 of the TCR11 is coming to an end. Christian Strasser, 6 time winner of the Race Across America, is 3rd at the moment, with a total riding time of 4d 5h, and a total stopping time of just 18h.
They are now enroute to Siena where they have to ride parts of the Strade Bianche as part of the fixed segment #4.
It will be interesting to see if some riders chose the more flat option via Parma and possibly Bologna down to Siena or the more direct yet significantly more hilly approach via Genoa, Sestri Levante and La Spezia (absolute stunning region to ride btw - will post some pics of me last rides there later).
All in all the battle for first is still on, there is no clear favourite and the fear of a lot of the top riders that the mandatory ferry from Bari is going to act like a safety car in F1 and remove hard earned time gaps is looking more and more like a possibility. Also the "long" rest period on the ferry is posing a challenge for the riders since the body might already go into recovery mode, making the departure from Albania even harder.
Tomorrows stage will be live from km0

>>150052281I got it like 10+ years ago. bought this model specifically because of glonass support. it has been through chutes, extreme temps (turns out its battery works only down to -28), torrential downpours. once it got in the middle of a road because a mount broke off mid ride and suv almost run it over but the driver somehow managed to swerve around it (out of goodness of his heart, I suppose) so it was ok. even battery is good to this day. it's a mystery device, really.

catching up on the stage...those GC women got KIM'd, that shot of them turning around was hilarious. also Gigante getting bullied by her teammate was based.

>>150052379Kek, I let my 1000 on top of the car roof at a race when I was 16, forgot, drove off, realised I left it on the roof, looked into the mirror and saw it because it's white case. It was run over but the screen was the only thing that was broken and because my dad had a good relationship with the warranty, got a replacement. It wasn't even squished, literally just the screen stopped working.
AS you say, mystery devices. Some are top notch others are shite. At least that was my experience. I have a wahoo now. it's good but it's nothing special imo. It's not as nice as the garmin.

I forgot about it and started pedaling standing on the pedals. naturally, I almost fell over, because there was no tension at first. I didn't fall, but I knocked my garmin off the mount and only noticed it 500 m later. I thought, well, that's it. I will never find it like this. I still came back to that intersection. lo and behold, there was traffic police car parked near the place and lady cop hopped out of it and gave my garmin back to me. looks like she saw when it fell of my bike, kek. I was really baffled at the time.

I only ever used Garmin and my first was the 500 that I bought shortly after it came out and now I'm on a 540. I gave the 500 to my brother when he started riding and it still works to this day
left the 500 on the top of the car once and only realized I lost it about a week later, I then went back to the place where I parked the car and it was fine. One week on the gutter under scorching sun.
the 540 has been flawless and the only problem I had was the mounting plastic thingy broke and garmin replaced it in 3 days.
