TQ: Which card do you hate but you still put into your own decks?
>inb4 thread was made too earlyStfu
Do people in card game worlds complain about slop or is the slop simply what we see them playing? Is Dark Magician akin to Ronal McDonald slop in our world?
>bought more cards than ever in the last 6 months
>have played the least amount since I started playing magic 8 years ago
>don't feel like turning into a collector
I guess I have to figure out how to sell all my stuff.
It was fun while it lasted
Far too early a thread. If the image limit isn't used up there's literally no reason to make new threads, it's fucking /tg/ the thread isn't going anywhere.
>>96074864No
Dark magician is actually rare, you only see one other duelist other than Yugi ever using it
>>96074864There's no such thing as slop
In a card game world, the people who dislike the card game wouldn't play
Edhh wouldn't exist, in fantasy all the people who say "slop" would stop playing and move on with their lives
>>96074840 (OP)>literally flying through the clouds, in range of a spaceship>no Reach
>>96074884Dark Magician is used several times in the show by people other than Yugi though. He's also used in the in-world advertising for Duel Monsters just like Blue-Eyes White Dragon, so it's a relatively rare but not impossible card to get. Sound familiar?
>>96074884arkana had 2 dark magicians, its still a rare card, but yugi wasnt the only one with a copy
need a full cycle of furry sword proxies
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
>>96074904No, slop has a pretty straightforward definition and no it's not AI go away you goddamn AI schizo posters no one cares. Slop is when fucking THIS happens.
>>96074907That's literally what I said
>>96074920>not mechanically unique>reprint of an easily accessible cardTheres 0 things wrong with this
>>96074920No, you have however shown what the definition actually is
>I don't like thing, so it's slop.
>>96074864Card game worlds are idealized versions of the concept. There is no slop.
This of course implies an edgy deconstruction of the card game world, where the game has been sloppified beyond belief and our edgy anti heroes must argue on the internet for the glory of their once great game.
>>96074930>>96074933Yes, excellent, just as predicted you simply accept the slop with zero care for the actual health of the game. We are truly transitioning into the Yugioh world.
>realize i can use Beatrix or any of my other put equipment on other fags cards to turn Gideon, Champion of Justice into a Voltron
It's still a really mid card but equipment moving to have the worst Gideon card suddenly slap shit is funny
>>96074939How is a reskin of a card that has existed for a long time bad for the health of the game?
You would have a point with the sonic cards, or deadpool, unique secret lairs you can't have access to otherwise, but not fucking goofy reprints.
>>96074945That's one of the best Gideons of all time idiot.
>>96074939Explain how there is any problem with a goofy reprint of Jodah? You can get a normal Jodah, and it isn't mechanically unique so you aren't forced into scalped prices or FOMO for the effect
>>96074913need a full cycle of noble phantasm proxies
>>96074951I don't care what you think, you accept slop at the basest level. It didn't make a difference whether I posted Sonic or SpongeBob when it's blatantly clear you just wanted to argue online.
>>96074965>Didn't answer the questionI accept your concession.
>>96074954If you say so little buddy. His art is the best but that's all I'll give him
>>96074970>how is literal slop bad for the game? Not a question worth answering. I accept YOUR concession, fag.
>>96074965Sonic is mechanically unique and tied to FOMO and locked behind slop. If they reprinted Kykar with Knuckles on it, it wouldn't matter.
>>96074939genuinely delusional if you think fancy alt art reprints of cards is the same as power creeping a mandatory staple thats 450$ for a playset and if you dont have it your deck is genuinely worse without it
>>96074983Slop is NOT about the power level of the game, that's not what the original question was about.
>>96074991You said its bad for the health of the game and several times you have refused to give an actual reason why. So do so, or fuck off.

Any tips on playing Mortarion without killing myself?
Do I just pack a deck with tutors to grab exquisite blood and whip of Erebos?
>>96074991the comparison was about yugioh and health of the game
shitty secret lairs arent comparable to game ruining cards that you cannot play the game without, you dont need to by the spongebob card to play the game
>>96074997>why is definitively sloppy art bad for MagicTruly unbelievably lazy trolling in this general at this point.
>>96074978>Literal slopMeaningless
>>96075008>Didn't answer it againSo you really can't. Got it, piss off.
>>96063410>These are fake cardsChecked them and they all have passed the red dot test so I think they are real.
>>96075020yo chat is this real?
>>96075020Ah fuck meant to respond to
>>96063441I'm a dumbass
Anyway, here is the dots of a card I got sold a while back that is 100% fake
>>96075024I sure hope so
>>96075005The comparison was about how accepting people in the Yugioh world are of card games and card game themed everything and how in real life in our own world we're making slop of whatever the fuck we want, pulling more and more normal people into the game. I don't give a shit about power level health, this is a question about card game culture as a whole now becoming accepting of shit like this that would be considered lazy as shit even in custom card threads.
>>96075017Define slop then because it's clear you don't have the right definition to even be asking that question in the first place. Like asking why is pain bad.
>>96075033for me it's making tidus a merfolk
I got FOMO'd into buying this despite being a total noob because I like FF6, my understanding is that I don't need anything else to play.
Did I make a mistake?
What youtubers and other recources should I check out as a near total TCG noob to prepare for playing at a Commander event?
>>96074840 (OP)>Which card do you hate but you still put into your own decks?I am not so spineless and sweaty as to play cards and decktypes I hate to play against. If I hate a card I simply don't play it no matter how good, or expensive it is.

>>96075061Yeah you can play out of the box. You'll probably want to make upgrades though.
It's a solid deck however
>>96075057only trannies use the term "vorthos"
>>96075042>>96074933Its a meaningless word thrown around by idiots on the internet in in lieu of any actual argument, who then crumble at the first chance of any opportunity of expand.
You've dodge the question asked over and over again, just kept saying "its slop because it just is!" and now you are going for the "you just don't get it."
You are pathetic.Just say "I don't like it" in the future as that's clearly what you mean.
>>96075048Haha we got another one boys
Yeah if you got one of the commander decks, that's all you need to get going.
>>96075061>>96075048Yep, then either 2 d20 or a cellphone app for your life counter.
I enjoy Salubrious Snail and ayaMTG. They make commander focused content.
Command Zone and EDHREC also do precon (what you bought) upgrade guides and reviews.
Just have fun. I generally only play with friends and family so iโd suggest infecting them with this curse as well.
Randoms can be a mixed bag.
>>96075061you're fine, yeah. as a test, try and look for five cards in it that you can say "hey that doesn't actually look very good" and look for things you could replace them with.
once you get better you can find the other five cards wizards puts in there on purpose for people to replace.
>>96075074No you retard, I'm not saying it's slop because it just is, I'm saying slop is bad for the health of Magic. Slop doesn't not have a meaning, it's a marketing term for any lazily done art, and that is literally what any UB art that's just screenshots and official pngs and shit. I don't like Magic having lazily done art, I don't need to defend that position any further, especially if we're snowballing into just making the laziest custom card thread autism real and in standard fucking booster packs. So many card arts are literally just screenshots, you can't NOT call that slop just because you personally like it. It's still fucking LAZY AS SHIT.
>>96075048As said in the other thread, MTG Arena is good for a total beginner to learn the basics of the game.
I do like mtgmuddstah on youtube for no-frills commander gameplay videos. But it's just watching gameplay, not exactly a tutorial.
when am I going to get to play a UB rebecca deck?
>>96075116Does Arena have Commander yet? I remember being pretty impressed at the ui when I was doing mill like way back on its more initial release
>>96074945I swear I remember this card being 3 mana, it's just so bad. He was super hyped up during preorders, feel bad for the guys who bought playsets to go with their aurelia's furys.
>>96074972You're in the EDH thread dude, he's great in big EDH games.
>>96075109>I don't like Magic having lazily done artThere is is, proved my point. Now piss off.
>>96075136No commander. But the tutorial is good for a total beginner, and doing at least a handful of free drafts will make a new player a bit more well rounded than your average edhonly
>>96075148Go fuck yourself dude lmao, I called you out on just being here to argue and that just proved MY point.

This or a big titty goblin in a harem outfit as a "treasure"
Why would you have cards fight as an ability when you can just do damage equal to your power to a creature with a lot of green/red cards in a way that's a lot more safe without any worry about getting your shit wrecked with a surprise buff? Am I missing something or is it just a power creep situation where the fight keyword isn't viable anymore?

i'm making a budget deck irl with like, table scraps from the bulk box. the landbase is about as good as i can afford, i might even just downgrade some of the pricier pieces like the floodfarm to basics, some of the pricier pieces like the dawn's truce and flawless maneuver i got from a few random bloomburrow packs i got given for my birthday or from an old precon my friend gave me. i also have the lathril preconn i've replaced a few cards with, but i'd like to try making a deck from scratch for the most part, i just don't really have the money right now to make anything "good" since i bought a house. i'm saving some money for the kilo precon when it drops.
does anyone have any suggestions on what to include or replace? i haven't gotten all of the cards (my lgs is really small so i'll probably have to explore other lgs or shop online), but this is what i'm working with; i need some way to close out games and i don't think beating people to death with fliers/kappa cannoneers is consistent enough.

>>96077953I pulled him from a pack, honest. Never would have built him otherwise. Funny enough the previous Commander, Xiaohu Dun, is even more expensive.
>>96078162Brewing it now, how do you like him
Thinking of buying the LCI Commander Deck bundle.
Found it on sale at a shop near me, and the individual decks are just like... completely unavailable in my country.
They any good? I think they look neat but I'd appreciate any opinions from folk who know a bit more about what they're talking about.
>>96078162Ol sephiroth strikes me as a great contamination lock commander
>>96078130What do we learn from that? Play more than one wincon that relies on your deck being almost empty.
>>96078167I like him fine enough, he's just aristocrats with the sac outlet AND payoff being the same card, which can lead to nutty turns. I ABSOLUTELY sure my build is shit compared to the heights you can take him but my playgroup isn't powerful enough for me to want to build him like that anyway. I will say, he is fun to me, but I like aristocrats as a playstyle and I love being the Archenemy, hamming it up and role-playing as the game progress.
PROTIP: Role-playing as either your Commander or as the planeswalker that recruited your Commander makes the game fun. TRUTH.
Games with the boys today. Going to be some suffering due to being with 5. We've got aircon do deal with the weather, luckily. Gonna play some Henzie and the final fantasy bant counters precon.
Best of fun to everyone else playing today! :D
>>96077600I'm gonna come out and say it but 'hat sets' are fine.
Aether Drift was a decent set, so was Duskmourn. The issue is a lack of block format to make the story in anyway interesting. Aether drift having its race resolved in the same set you're told about it kills any enthusiasm for knowing who won the race. It should have been two smaller sets, with the first setting up the teams and the second showing who wins. Same for Duskmourn, and same for this set.
>>96077781If I can't buy it and it's sold out I just proxy it. If WoTC doesn't want my money they won't get it.
>>96078101>proudly gave away $100 for UB sloppa.kys please
>>96078194>PROTIP: Role-playing as either your Commander or as the planeswalker that recruited your Commander makes the game fun. TRUTH.if i wanna see reddit tier writing id go there.
>>96078101why was this set racist against black doctors
>>96077499Black watlz is in the 99 he makes a great blocker since once I'm shooting for damage with cantrips I don't need to swing. He just doesn't do enough to be a commander.
>>96078341removing blocks has been nothing but a net negative for the game. You used to be able to sit in a plane for awhile and they could build off of mechanics or tribal synergies or whatever but now we just blitz from one plane to the other and itโs a wonder they even still bother writing lore to justify anything going on
>>96078402Because no matter what Wizards says, IP licensors view black as evil and will never allow their heroes to have black color identity even if they probably should. 9th and 10th Doctors absolutely had black in their identity because of the fall of Gallifrey
>>96078419It's really weird because it's not like they would be making less product even if they did, just break the sets in half. 300+ new cards/set is insane and has to be burning creative out.
>>96078426Isn't one of blacks core identities "Power at any cost"? not just evil actions. I don't know if any of the doctors desired power like that. But maybe I'm wrong, I'm not really a whovian or whatever the fuck they call themselves
>>96078458Every color has a lot of meanings anon.
In any case, 9th Doctor tortured a Dalek because it was helpless- not just tortuing a helpless dalek but torturing it because it couldn't stop it and he enjoyed seeing it hurt. The whole point of the episode was that he was more like the hateful creatures than he wanted to admit.
10th had a whole god complex arc and named himself The Time Lord victorious, deciding that he alone could rewrite history as he wished.
If that shit isn't black, I don't know what is.
>>96076984So you admit then that slop is all consuming and forced upon people in Magic because of the masses loving slop ie real franchises more than nerd shit. You can't simply out money groups that are exponentially larger than you.
>>96078130>play card advantage: the Commander>play control>play combo>combo is only wincon>complain that games take to long>then proceed to call a cEDH viable commander "trash"everyone has their hate boner for Simic players, but Dimir edgelords are the truly insufferable
>>96076984>Market speaks. You boomers who were playing before the big UB shift weren't buying enough packs for the company to careI will never understands why faggots like you will present corporate interests as your own interests.
If Wizards made a dollar more printing cards on your flayed skin, they would slaughter you in an instant.
>>96078481Very true, and straight from the mtg wiki
> Black believes that the only measure of right and wrong should be whether or not an approach leads to success: amorality, rather than morality or immorality. Unnecessary suffering in Black's view is the result of a counterproductive approach, yet in different circumstances, the same approach could be the right one. Black knows the value of selfishness, so it is open to opportunities and strategies rejected by others as taboo or forbiddenโundeath, torment, infection, betrayal. Black characters will ensure their well-being even at the expense of others; to Black, anything less only allows others to do the same. Thus, Black does everything possible to gain the only commodity that can secure it from weakness and ensure its ability to get whatever it needs or wantsโpower, even omnipotence. The only thing Black values more than its own life is its own will, as it sees the self as that which is most precious to all beings. seems pretty black to me. Didn't Kamigawa have one of the main heros have black in their colors? I think a set where our hero wanted to defeat the villain at any cost or any amount of lives would be pretty cool desu. I don't think Wizards would ever go for it with the marvel direction they are currently going but oh well.
>>96078489is a 5mana sort on a stick really cEDH viable? I feel like there a cheaper options in that same color.
>>96078504it is, because it lets you look at and filter 6 cards per rotation, that is in addition to you standard issue instant speed cantrips and interaction
>>96078504>I don't think Wizards would ever go for it with the marvel direction they are currently going but oh well. There are certain things this company will never ever do, but the primary one that's always stuck out to me over the years is the utter lack of an actual mono green villain. Not just green in size but not color like the eldrazi, not multicolor green like cursed Garruk, and not just the token green guy (Vorinclex) that was created to fill out a cycle of bad guys. I'm talking a true green villain that is presented as such. All the other colors have had their turn as the bad guy but it has only ever fallen on green if one of the other colors can share the burden of evil.

>>96078341The thing with sets doing genre pastiche is that they're often too afraid to actually commit to the fucking genre.
Duskmourn was a love letter to 80s horror and it was downright enthusiastic about doing silly campy 80s horror shit like THE MEATHOOK MASSACRE... 2 and having cards have a Scary Guy somewhere in the frame lurking. It actually did something with its genre inspiration. The genre sets people get angry about refused to be genre sets at all, like Aetherdrift which refused to embrace the core silliness of Wacky Races or OTJ with tried to dodge the fundamental premise of a western but in doing so just tied itself up harder and created a plane that literally had nothing going on.
>>96078747>Duskmourn was a love letter to 80s horrorLmao
>>96076649Sorry for the late reply, I've been thinking of making Kuja but normally I don't do more than one deck in the same color identity (and im building Kolaghan)
So I'd either have to cut Kolaghan and build a different Dragon deck, or just bite the bullet. I love the cards that make the wizard tokens, and I adore FF9s Black Mages and that whole plot line. If I built Kefka i could do all of it, but I'd have to dig for the tokens and such, but I'd get access to Vivi, Blue Mages Cane, and Emperor of Palamecia
>>96078747People also hate Duskmourn just as much as OTJ and Aetherdrift, so Iโm not sure what point youโre trying to make.
>>96078734>>96078504Chainer was also a mono-black protagonist and pretty cool even if his story doesn't end well. Also Sorin and Davriel Cane are decent guys who are mono black planeswalkers. Liliana probably veers too much into evil to count.
>>96078909They really don't. DSK was vastly more popular then either.
>>96078426Black being banned from heroes will continue to be a thing in UB sets forever, probably. Or they'll do silly things to skirt around making it their color identity like they did with Aang.
>>96078921This would have been perfect as a new 4 color commander. Works great for what it is and could've been so sweet then they just slap black on the back.
>>96078921In what way is Aang black though?
>>96078921Also why does he have Firebending on his base card when it's the last thing he learns? Maybe they're going to do the LOTR thing and have multiple cards of the same character
>>96078905Kuja is more fun than Kefka and easier to play at 2 colors.
>>96077620>but where are the laser weapon cards atif you're a good deckbuilder you should know exactly what archetype this slots into
>>96078959Fair
This is the stuff from what was going to become the Kefka deck, the Rakdos half at least. I've got a Lotus Petal I'll probably throw in, not sure how powerful it should be aimed for. I've got an Ancient Tomb, Mox Ambers, etc.
>>96078988This would be so fun in grixis Mishra if he had 5 toughness. But sadly it kills him, so it's entirely useless.
Might still be fun in my Lord of Pain deck.
>>96078632>There are certain things this company will never ever do, but the primary one that's always stuck out to me over the years is the utter lack of an actual mono green villain.because biases creep into storytelling and as easy as it is to put tyrants into white, insane scientists into blue, stereoptypical evil into black, and chaos lovers into red, treehuggers will never be seen as evil for people living in renton WA
>>96078680case in point
>>96079018hint: any deck that would slot in picrel will slot in battleship as a 2nd copy, with the new card having a lower ceiling but a better floor

>>96078905> I don't do more than one deck in the same color identity (and im building Kolaghan)So I'd either have to cut Kolaghan and build a different Dragon deck, or just bite the bullet
This is a dumb way of thinking and you should absolutely bite the bullet
>>96078680I miss this because it actually made her interesting. Instead they retconned her into a lesbian. Disappointing
>>96079070Honestly, I might just convert Kolaghan into Ganax + Guild Artisan as a Mono-Red Treasure/Dragon deck and focus my Rakdos stuff on Kuja. I also have a spare deckbox so I can build either Vivi or The Emperor
>>96079062It's mostly blue, but these were in the same pile. Vivi would probably appreciate them the most.
>>96078940We went over this at length when the card was first revealed, but the entire fucking point of Last Airbender is about balance. Aang is interested in power, and revenge. At various times in the show he blows up and seriously hurts people. However he's afraid of that side of himself and tries to supress it for the longest time. It's why true fans view taking away Ozai's bending instead of killing him as a cop out.
But more to the point, the avatar spirit is the world spirit. Or was. Look, we're not treating Korra as canon, fuck you. Spirits can be "evil" in universe, when balance is upset. As the literal spirit of the planet itself, Aang has the capacity for all things, black should not be excluded from his identity, especially not when the card already shows him in avatar state on the front, meaning he is tapping into all his lives and not just who he is as Aang.
It's difficult simply because 1. Magic really doesn't define identity well in 4 and 5 colors, but 2. IP licensors view black as the evil color and don't want it on their heroes.
You can dance around "is Aang REALLY 5c though??????" all you fucking want, but the bottom line is you will not see any "good guy" characters in Spider-Man or AtLA with black in their identity because the companies behind them said so.
>>96079074writing generic evil is one thing, but the one thing companies will never delve into are concepts that trigger people even if it's entirely fiction, such as racism and abuse of children

It's a difficult setting to work color philosophy into because by necessity the person most obsessed with power is Ozai. Azula, obviously, but she's just copying Ozai.
There aren't really any characters that are nuanced enough to have black qualities while being good.

>>96079929>Bojuka Bog enters>this puts its trigger on the stack (targeting you)>round of priorityYou can absolutely use it to protect yourself, another reason I love that card in Golbez as a backup protection card. The on-field effect is so mild until the engine is roaring that it never really warrants removal
As a magic the gathering fan I had never played final fantasy games before, and through UB I realized how bored I was of magic and so I've quit and started playing the final fantasy games starting with 1.
>>96080369Yeah. It's why I like the color, having a direct game plan with some cards that can simply brute force it when people leave mana open in preparation to counter you is nice
>>96080500The best ones are six seven eight nine and 10. They are all good but those are the best. One is a classic

>>960805277, 9, 6, 4 and to a lesser extent 8 are all fucking great
>>9608050014's an MMO so probably skip that unless you want your year long task to become multiple years long.
>>96080529That into sigarda when they're trying to target one of your boys you absolutely need around feels amazing
>>96080500Enjoy anon. There's a few questionable design choices sometimes like ff2s leveling system, but you'll really hit a golden era from like 4-10.
Be sure to play tactics at some point too, 1 was one of my personal GOATs on ps1
>>96080542Oh yeah I forgot 4. Four is great. I also really enjoyed 10
>>96079839>Ukimma stickerdid you make that? it's kind of cute
>>96080608Don't forget tactics advance! That game is amazing and certainly one of my favorites
>>960805003 (3d remake for Luneth), 4, 5, 7, 9, and 10 are fantastic. 6 is a game that puts me to sleep but is a super iconic and good game so I recommend it, and 8 is great but riddled with being... something else and that's coming from one of 8's very few fans.
>>96080640Nah. I'd never play a commander pushed as Ukkima if it wasn't to enable stickers specifically. I bought it off some etsy shop I found on google and defaced the card.
Though in hindsight I guess I should've made an available spare for people to read. For whatever reason players don't bother asking for me to reiterate the text after I've explained it several times, and then act surprised when he does exactly what I've told them it does.
>>96080710> 8 is great but riddled with being... something else What do you mean by this
>>96080730The game has a LOT of weird and seemingly janky mechanics, the escalating leveling system so grinding is actively bad for you, the fact the card game is 10x more profitable than combat for items, and the odd plot. I love the plot, but there's lots of strange bits. Oh and Rinoa sucks.
Bros, what's the best way to get the Sanic secret lair tomorrow? Is the back door way patched yet?
>>96080730>>96080761ff8 isn't a very good love story especially when square could've done the logical and narratively satisfying thing and made ultimecia as rinoa from the future
>>96080500>im dropping one bad series for another

welp, time to get to work
What's the best way to build elenda to maximize the amount of vampire tokens created?
>>96080840Aristocrats obviously, and with things like Ojer-Taq, Anointed Procession, etc. But make sure you have cheap reanimation to avoid having to recast her unless you're running things like Ashnod's/Phy Altars. Drop a ton of tokens into the bin, then kill her, recast, then do it again
>>96080665Tactics Advance was a great one too. I liked the story of 1 and the option to recruit my GOAT Cloud more in the OG but damn i was addicted to that and Tactics Ogre on my GBA
>>96080866>Token doublersShit advice
>>96080730Junction is kind of a really really retarded and game breaking mechanic, the money system where it's your SEED rank, the fact you could just spam limit breaks that did so much damage you could one shot optional bosses with a high strength and Irvine's rapid fire bullets and a few of the plot twists were kinda bad. Still a rock solid game but damn was it a weird position between 7s elegant materia system and 9s really fun customizable gear based one
>>96080919Am I the only one that doesn't really like the materia system? I found it really awkward
>>96080866I should have specified - I already knew the general ideas, but I was wondering if there was anything like super persist, where I could recur her so she enters with counters on her so I can chain sacrifices. Or if there was a way to give her counters when I gain life like the angels do. Other niche tech like that
>>96080928talking about universes beyond is on topic
>>96080951Talking about FF and their inclusion as magic cards, yes.
Talking about FF games, no.
>>96080937I thought it was pretty great and intuitive myself, only weakness was the ability gain speed was pretty fucking slow compared to standard xp gain
>>96080945You can use Ratadrabik, Luminous Broodmoth or Malakir Rebirth to get her back instantly. Two of the Teysas can also synergise pretty well I imagine.
>>96080945You could go with Cathars' Crusade and stuff like Soul Cauldron to give her persist, shenanigans like that
Cauldron Haze as well. There's also those black spells that return something that dies like Malakir Rebirth and Not Dead After All
>>96080958but how can we get the references if we don't talk about the games themselves?
Is it a good idea to get the Blame Game precon and turn it into Marisi or just get the individual cards i need for it?

>>96080997someone just said they learned of final fantasy through magic and wants to play them given he's bored of mtg

I guess fate is telling me to build a monoB FF deck
Wheres the guy who said he finished this deck? I wanna see your list! Mine is almost done just need to fill the rest of the deck with draw and interaction (ramp is gay). Ima try to get around 10 more of each so I have a few slots if anyone sees any things I overlooked!

>>96081017>someone just saidso? that post didn't ask for opinions. should we start rating and reviewing the spiderman movies too in a couple of months since I started watching them?
then add in all the other media crossover drivel and there is no one left to talk about that one weird urza commander deck, just pop-culture noise
>>96081133How do you build David Bowie? I don't like focusing on Instants and Sorceries and prefer enchantments and artifacts..
>>960811914cmc spellslinger with some self mill
my friends said there already starting to lose interest in magic because theres too many decks and they dont like that every deck can do "so much stuff"
there used to playing bandai and bushiroad games and they think having interaction on an opponents turn isnt fair
guess i need to start looking for random pods again
>>96081254Tbh, there's a reason why every other game doesn't allow interaction on your opponent's turn
>>96081254>what do you mean I can't just pay to win? I have to pay AND know how to play?!
>>96081296read the other side of emperor
>>96081299they mostly play shit like UA and weiss, but every game in those games play out the same and theres basically 0 thought, they were excited about final fantasy so i gave them all list and tried to help them learn but one of the guys who bought sephiroth doesnt like playing because he cant only play sephiroth and he basically gives up if anything on his board dies which is fucking wild considering he built sephiroth
>>96081187sorry UB got your feathers ruffled but random talk about spiderman movies and why avatar legend of korra sucks and (whatever is going on with the next UB) every now and then is just how it's going to be moving forward ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏ
>>96081299I haven't played many multiplayer card games outside of hearthstone and pokemon when I was younger, but doesn't the lack of interaction on other's turns just turn into solitaire strategies?
I remember I was able to nolife hearthstone during the great beyond because I could play my turn in 30 seconds, go write half an email, switch tabs, and then execute the same protoss rogue combo line with no interaction (especially since secrets are kinda bad)
>>96081187You are talking like a nerd emoji, if it upsets your autism this bad just give it a few minutes and things will get back on track soon enough
>>96081170I pulled 2 of Vincent in one pack and got a surge foil of him in another collector's pack earlier, I think i got a similar vibe that I should embrace the mono
>UB tourists actually hate the game and dont contribute to its overall longevity
Shocking!
>>96081299So you can loop every card out of your opponent's hand with zero chance for them to respond!
>>96081372Depends on the game, a good game will have you alter your strategy and plays based on the opponents last turn
I would say based on that sometimes it does feel "solitaire" like but the games are easier to pick up and the decks easier to build
>>96081395Unironically yes
Pokemon I think is a great example of ta game that has no opponents turn interaction
That doesn't mean they don't fuck up occasionally like in your pic
>>96081372I played during the times when freeze mage was everywhere and I just kept thinking "fuck me why is there nothing i can do to interrupt this clear game plan?" I'm glad Magic lets you have that interaction to decide what bullshit you want to even come out onto the field even if you can run into those situations where you can get mana screwed/flooded or some guy runs a combo that makes your deck eat total shit
>>96081335I meant what kind of self mill
Palantir?
>>96081380That's the UW purists at this point
>>96081380>how dare mtg pivot to UB when us true players absolutely bought every damned set during its 3 set period!roru rumao
>>96081409I disagree
Games like Pokemon have a good amount of things you can do to screw with your opponent, they just all happen on your turn
Basically everyone gets to "do the thing", meanwhile in magic pro tour games are decided by mulligans and whose deck actually decides to perform
>>96081372i try to play every card game i can since i like learning shit, but most bushiroad games and other shit just get so fucking boring to me, if yugioh wasnt in such an awful state for the last few years id still be playing but i fucking love playing commander because of the freedom i get to do shit and being able to completely pick my playstyle and sculpt a deck around it
and the other issue with weiss and a bunch of other games is how little control you have, very small draw power and winning or losing is completely decided on life triggers or climaxes in deck so i think thats also why they like them since you can excuse lack of skill for having good luck
>>96081413>target yourself>swing for a 20-30 ping on everyone>play an extra combat spell and do it againsomething along those lines anyways
>>96081406Anon, there's more than one card that systematically takes away every chance for your opponent has to even try to address your opener.
>>96081448ive only been playing pokemon for a few months and i was instantly able to realize how fucking broken this card is, this and boss are the 2 strongest cards in the game
>>96081468Kneel before your god.
>>96081474god i fucking hate budew so much
>>96081448>>96081468They still get played on your turn though. There is no instant response on the opponents turn. And additionally every single deck has access to those cards.
Plus they aren't even pure benefits. I would say 50% of the time iono gets me what I need instead of disruption
You just end up with a game that's easier to understand compared to magic
>>96081340>>96081377ok gotcha, gonna bring up unrelated shit to fuck up the threads from now on
>>96081474This thing is the worst
>>96081483Oh glad to hear that you have your lynchpin in your 4. Don't get too attached to it because you're about to discard all of those followed by me using Chip-Chip Ice Axe to fuck your topdeck.
>>96081483>They still get played on your turn though. There is no instant response on the opponents turn. And that is a bad thing? It means that if you start first you can just put yourself ahead in tempo and cards with zero cost to yourself and there is fucking nothing you can do about it
>and additionally every single deck has access to those cardsevery single deck having to run those cards and getting assraped otherwise is not a good thing
>>96081436Would that be good?
>>96081504Sorry but I'm kind of confused. Do you think that posting these cards is some sort of gotcha to me?
To be clear Pokemon has plenty of interaction it's just that all of it happens on the individual player's turn. And I think that's a good game design compared to magic
>>96081419To be fair pro tour magic is so separated from what i play with friends and at the lgs that I consider it a totally separate game
>>96081506But that's wrong. Second turn is often more coveted because of how the game works
>>96081517>people are comparing mtg interaction vs pokemon interactionoh the horror
>>96081514>Get fucked in the ass with zero chance to respond>"Actually it's good because it was his turn so he deserves it."
>>96081515I'm bringing up the point to illustrate that even at the highest level of playing, magic players are still fighting with their own decks.
This is true of every TCG. However the extent at which your deck can screw you over in magic is much larger than in other tcgs. I've been playing both magic and Pokemon for years, and it's much easier to make a consistent deck in Pokemon because of the nature and the rules of the game. Your deck can still brick in pokรฉmon but it is much less likely to do so.
>>96081545Yeah you're just straw Manning at this point and it's clear that you either can't read, or are choosing not to read
What are some commanders that will make me feel smarter than I actually am
>>96081514>Opponent rips literally every single card out of your hand AND ruins your topdeck>Because you can't take any actions during their turn there is literally no counterplay to itHow is this a good thing?
>>96081582Give your opponents the intellectually stimulating experience of being unable to respond to you.
>>96081564What's your "real" argument then? Are you denying the pivotal role that resource denial has taken up in Pokemon TCG, born literally out of the "no interacting on your opponent's turn" system where decks literally autopilot to a win because all your "interaction" is a mix between Fateseal, Mind Twist, and Silence?
I can print anything
I have free will
>>96081722I actually wish I could have the normal version of this art on a playmat but I don't want to be considered a massive coomer cause of the massive boob window
>>96081734Why give a fuck what people think? It's not like you're printing off some kind of ai generated bukake bikini goblin, breasts are not that offensive to where a window is this great sin
>>96081734Imagine having skin this thin, its official art
>>96081734I have the regular art on a playmat already, the only thing anyone has ever said about it is "is teysa your favourite character?"
It's not exactly coomer art and it's official
This one has been kind of bugging me for a bit and i know it's a dumb question maybe but i gotta know: what's the point of a play mat? If you got your cards sleeved up proper like it's not like they're going to get damaged playing on a table, you know?
>>96081791Looks nice
Further protects the cards
Most importantly, you know where your play space is so dumb token faggots can't over take your space
>>96081791>what's the point of a play mat?Stylish points and being worried about a dirty table. Nothing more
>>96081791Makes it easier to pick up your cards and they don't slide around the place.
>>96081778>official art looks like that I genuinely think I've been psyoped, I've only ever seen the big naturals edit
>>96081722
>>96081791Also feels just nicer to play on. And even if your cards are sleeves, those will get gunk on them eventually too. I can't tell if playmats help mitigate that though.
>>96081791the playmat having a little bit of give means you can easily get your fingers underneath sleeves/cards as opposed to them being flat on the table and you have to run the risk of bending them in order to pick up one on a crowded boardstate
>>96081722Not slop, a scholar and a gentleman
>>96081791Everything has mostly been covered but I wanna also add that you can put your opponents on tilt with risque art on your sleeves and playmat. Think lolis or huge boobs or terese nielsen.
wait you can counter spells by bouncing it to hand?
>>96081917Well yeah, if they're not on the stack anymore, they won't be resolved. It also technically doesn't count as countered, so it gets around "can't be countered" effects.
You can even exile spells.
What are the best azorius dragon tribal cards? I want to build dragonlord ojutai
>>96081894Well I do like huge boobs. You've convinced me, I'll get either a boob themed one, a Ryan Gosling themed one or the battle of wits princess bride themed one i happened to see the other day
I did see an incredible playmat for sale the other day but the image limit is reached ahhh
>>96081894I know a guy who mostly plays on Arena, has been on it since the beta and only spent money on it once, to buy the MLP avatar. He's never seen the show or anything, just thought it was funny when I mentioned it would tilt people.
>>96081990Where do i get sleeves of big boob anime girls? I want Quintessential Quintuplets sleeves.
>>96081635I mean you're kind of proving my point for me desu.
The original anon was talking about how his friends didn't like how magic had interactions on opponents turns.
Another anon brought up how without interaction on your opponent's turn the games turn into solitaire without instant speed interaction.
My point was that pokemon has plenty of ways to screw with your opponent, they just all happen on your turn. And while that is not always ideal in terms of play experience or power level, it's much easier game to learn
>>96082032Order them from Dragonshield, they do custom sleeves and don't give a shit
>>96076845It's a discover/cascade combo to try and kill you turn 3. If you hold any amount of removal then you're usually fine, but for people who are trying to get all of their wins in/powergamers they're all really fast games. There's a similar one with
>>96076871 and the "discard for more or less MV" Arena card which is pretty uncounterable if you're not holding a counterspell of some kind.
>>96074840 (OP)>this planet/asteroid sized Wurm is a 1/3is Edge of Eterneties supposed to be a shrinked miniature set?
