I've been using Army Painter Grey for a long while. I was using a Tamiya light grey, but it would make the first layer of brush paints bead up even when using other Tamiya paints, and I have concerns it wouldn't adhere well. With my CSM I use Black Legion Contrast after painting trim and details, and over the grey it gives a nice blackened charcoal look and the contrast part of it has something to work with. Unless I was doing something very specific I think I would stick with grey for everything.

Speaking of Primer, how is Colour Forge's stuff? I prime my Guard vehicles with Army Painter's Wolf Gray then apply a base coat of The Fang on top of that, but if I can just use Colour Forge's Wolfkin Gray and skip a step that'd be pretty great.

I play GSC and I find it fun to play but I can't honestly recommend it as a faction due to how pricey it is and good discount boxes simply do not exist. You will need lots of Neophytes & Acolytes and the current combat patrol only has Acolytes. And the faction is rather useless without supporting characters which means you'll need lots of them and the price adds up too quickly from there. They're also a bit difficult to paint, for the models are really detailed and you need to be painting a LOT of them.

I usually hold a very pro kitbash "just do it yourself smartass" type position but I just wish my army had more general all purpose units that aren't just kidnapped from other armies. On the topic of Eldar, I'm trying to settle on how to paint up my Combat Patrol stuff as it slowly comes. I'm leaning towards Iyanden for quite a few reasons

GW now make quarterly balance updates where they make slight adjustments to individual factions to help keep the game healthy and prevent any one army from becoming too oppressive. They also have chaos-aligned worlds and full on daemon worlds in the warp to recruit from. There's an older book just called Daemon World about the cultural/tribal conflicts on one of them and I remember it being a pretty good read as far as BL novels go, there was a renegade Word Bearer acting as the leader of one of the tribes. I don't see why everything devoted to Chaos must be mindless cultists or unwilling slaves. The Blood Pact are truth that there can be more to a Chaos cult than feral hordes.
