Nah, I've refrained from using AI in general. I think I'm just a dumbass and didn't even realise the first paragraph contained an error like that.

Generally, I've been proofreading as I go when playing the game, and my writing can be really sloppy at times. It's probably why the core rules are the most polished, but something like character creation still on the rare occasion, has old or obsolete nomenclature from when it was an unofficial Redwall RPG. Hell, I just found one earlier where it refers to 'Flaws' as 'Faults'.

I bet if you go to something like the music section which I just wrote a few days ago you'll see a ton of errors especially.

Been thinking of running a campaign with small critters in a world of humans and such.

>Abandoned castle town in the woods.
>slowly becoming a new settlement for a few families of adventuring humans.
>The wizard's crystal-headed staff has fallen into the castle's basement level after many, many years of the wooden floors slowly rotting away.
>the crystal has fallen into a tiny underground creek and rendered its waters magical.
>creatures that drink from this stream gain intelligence and self awareness.
>tiny civilization has started to spawn in the castle, in parts of the human settlement, in the woods, upon the crumbling aqueduct.

>Plot . . . err, dunno. need to workshop that.

-Mustelids tend to be emotional and energetic, not schizo-like but in harmony with their own stranges. They are evolved spicies after all.
-Extreme focus on tasks and resalt. They tend to overwork and have will to motivate others to do as match.
-Deformed reaction on stress. Mustelid almost never fear or fall in sadness. Instead they rage, distract on new activities or sleep a lot.
-Risk of harming others and innate mastery in killing things force a lot of mustelids to have special tricks and rituals to cool themself. Art and music are popular for a reason. Dancing is religiously loved activity.

Yeah, I know about both Mouse Guard and Mausritter, and really like both of them, but they have a very different vibe than what I meant.

I'd like an RPG that's about a party of small, fuzzy adventurers belonging ti different species doing standard fantasy-action movie stuff, maybe a bit tongue-in-cheek, somewhat like Princess Bride, and that has a great focus on the relationships between the party members. I have some ideas whirling in my head for how it would work.

Also, your game looks pretty interesting! I'll give it a read when I can.

Owl is the big bad, mysterious lich figure,
Cat is a sentient dragon type of big bad, evil, but can be fooled if you get it to listen to what you have to say.
Snakes are a more "mundane" enemy, something that would terrorize a small local village

Cats work surprisingly well as sentient dragons, they're smart enough to be sadistic yet can be tricked. Though I'd personally set owls and snakes as the greater threats. One is Death on Silent Wings; sometimes a mouse or other critter just vanishes at night and those who investigate do too. The other hails back to ancient dragons which still held a strong resemblence to the serpents which inspired them, their burning breath more venomous than fiery. If a setting includes humans, you may notice that the titans in whose shadow you live seem to love cats, ignore owls and share your mortal terror of serpents.

>>96336846
Agreed, it's why I included them. But cats are also a very traditional foe for mice, and owls felt like a good Death from Above option. Really, I can see a heroic mouse knight slaying a snake like a dragon, if he can just avoid the fangs, but anything with wings is beyond fighting you just dive for cover and pray.

Mouse Guard is an RPG based on the comic series by the same name. The comic is by David Petersen, and I really recommend it. It's not strictly a kid's comic, but it can be absolutely enjoyed by them too and doesn't have anything sexual or overly violent.
The game is by Luke Crane and is based on a simplified version of his Burning Wheel system. The players take up the role of Guardmice: members of an order that dedicates itself to protecting the Mouse Territories from predators, the weather and evil mice. It's a really interesting ruleset, and it's probably one of my favourites, but it's pretty crunchy, sometimes a bit too much for it's own good, so I wouldn't recommend to a small child, although an 11 or 12 year-old should have too many issues playing it. It does heavily depend on the child in question, of course: a friend of mine's brother GM'd Pathfinder games to his friends since when he was 10. The rulebook is clearly written with the assumption that's it's going to be read by a younger audience, but I think that a small child is gonna be a bit overwhelmed by all the rules. The art is by David Petersen, and it is gorgeous.

Mausritter is an OSR-esque game where you play mice adventures in the modern world. There's all the classic Dungeon Crawling package: Ancient ruins inhabited by mysterious cults, evil wizards and their towers, hex maps and lethality. There are also all the problems that stem from being a small mouse in a world populated by humans.
It's extremely rules-light, and character creation is completely random. The Inventory system is probably my favourite part of the game. It's simple enough that no kid should have big problems playing it, but since dying is very easy, again it depends on the child.
Anonymous No.96338488
>>96335416
>Teens
I think you're referring to 13-14 year-olds, and if that is the case I'd recommend other systems. If they are anything like I was as the time, they are desperately trying to be more "cool" and "grown up", not to mention full of all kinds of angst, so trying to entice them with small mice with swords, as beautiful as they might be, might be the wrong approach. As a 12-13 year-old I was very fascinated with D&D, but that my Fantasy-loving ass having made first contact with the Dragonlance books.
I think that teenagers would be interested in something like Old School Essentials or Dungeon World, depending on their tastes. If you find yourself with a group of absolute edgelords, all you have to do is show them the MΓΆrk Borg rulebook's cover and you'll have them convinced.

I think the main distinction between something like Redwall and more typical anthro focused fantasy is a lot of the setting leans on the animal aspects being core to a characters identity. Same with size disparity being a common theme that complicates interaction within the world.
Just look at Mouseguard where just ordinary regular ass crabs and seagulls are a life and death struggle whereas something more furry like ironclaw wouldnt even consider them worth thinking about.

I think thats enough difference for these types of settings to have their own genre to describe them. And I am autistic enough to want a name so we have something to call these kinds of threads because Im fond of the discussions and art.

I mean, hell, set it in the World of Darkness, just viewed from a different angle. I could also see it almost being like Secret of NIMH meets Hunter, where your colony of animals, whatever they might be, defend their territory from incursions of the weird and supernatural. A recently turned Nosferatu, unable to live on the surface and is now haunting the sewers and subsisting off rats. What is your colony going to do to stop his poaching? A strange creature - corpse like, but crackling with the fire of creation - has settled into a long-disused pumping station underneath a park. He studies the fire that animates him, but when he uses it to try and animate dead flesh, it spawns horrid, chitinous things that stalk the park. It's gotten so a decent squirrel can't even climb trees and hide acorns. What will your brothers and sisters do?

Let's say you've been invited to join in on a Redwall campaign. It's going to be a fairly standard sort of affair in which some Abbey dwellers are sent out into the wild to rendezvous at Salamandastron. What sort of character would you like to play as? Species? Role in the party/story? Caveat - goodbeasts only, no vermin. While I don't disagree that there's plenty of room in the setting for less black and white than Jacques paints in the books, let's stick to the basic premise.

Anyone out there with enough main character energy to play as a young badger with destiny thrumming in their blood, or a reluctant bearer of a very famous sword? Me, I'd probably wanna be a hare. I like that they had boxing and kicking hares in the books.

I've been kicking around ideas for a creek/river/lake scenario where the PCs start out a small mouse village/town near a body of water.
You could go full Moby Dick with large mouth bass and pike as both of those are known to eat small mammals they come across.
Here's one of the settlement ideas that I had.
Greenhome
Wooden bridge joins the settlement.
Industry: Fishermice with nets and rafts. They primarily catch crawdads, creek chubs and other small fish. Occasionally they might be able to catch a much larger fish.
Greenhome is located next to a creek with a small wooden bridge going over it that the mice maintain. It is made up of four small half buried burrows and one large covered round house made from what looks to be an overturned whicker basket sealed with dirt and clay. Near the creek can be seen a dock, various structures, and equipment for fishing, which is the primary method the mice of Greenhome use to make their living. They fish the creek for crawdads, creek chubs, other small panfish, and minnows that call the creek home. Sometimes a much larger fish slips into the creek and ends up hooked at which point the whole town goes up in a flurry trying to either bring the monster in or cut it loose before it completely destroys the lines. It has a small clay pot tea candle heater in the center of the large round house that provides a meager amount of warmth to those inside. All of the smaller burrows are connected via a main tunnel that also connects to the round house. There are about 3-5 families of mice living there.

>mandatory side character sacrifice death in every book
>sometimes it’s the most innocent and undeserving characters for no reason but being in the wrong place at the wrong time
>villain arcs that last multiple books to end in horrifying terror
>Realistic 4/10 survival odds for large field battles (The Long Patrol was GOAT but honestly it felt like secondhand PTSD once it was finished)

Why did Brian Jacques feel the need to prepare me for the inevitable deaths of my favorite people?
