I kind of stole this from Eons of Battle but I changed some things: I collect tree bark and cook it/dry it out, have cork board on hand, several different types of dirt
just shave some cork/bark how you want it, level it out with some drywall repair paste, use modgepodge/pva watered down and get some sand and rocks on there, then just super glue the mini on
when I paint I just pick an earthtone/gray and give it a little attention and call it good

I bought some Army Painter cork "stones" which I could use for the Berzerkers. Still probably doing anything too fancy for them is not a good idea but maybe I should think harder about the Daemon Prince and the Eightbound. I kinda keep fucking up ny Berzerkers. I glue something and change my mind or notice that something is off and its too late. Like I glued the head of the Champion and its going to be quite hard to paint as half of it is blocked by his pauldron. I'm learning I guess. Still having a great deal of fun. Berzerkers rock. Jakhals kinda sucked compared to them.

Is there much difference between the old and new genestealers? I tend to see the old ones pop up on marketplace a bit, along with the space hulk ones (no idea how old they are), but the new ones seem to sell really quickly. That and anything vanguard invader related sells insanely quick (unless its a prime or von ryan leapers]

The kid in me wants to run all chaincannons, but the adult says "Use some lascannons".

Thoughts on the idea? I would love to run an aura-beast chaos army. Even if not as competitive as it could be with possessed, chosen and the like.

I think you're being too kind with the wash. You can likely go a bit harder- Are you worried it will ruin them?

Grab a mini you don't care too much about and just go crazy with the wash, then go back over it with highlights.

I have had a few attempts, it's a bit of a dog to do. I recommend starting the model with a red sprayed base coat, then zenithal airbrush with cream or white. Then just do all over with a contrast paint of your choice (which you can also just blast out your airbrush, I recommend adding some water first). If you want to go a bit further from there you can pick out some highlights with a brush.

That's how I did the kroot skin in pic related.

Alrighty ive got a shitload of boyz that I can use to try different methods out. I've seen red and yellow done before, but for the shading im not sure if red would suit ork skin, maybe purple or a blue. Do you ever think contrast paints with thinner? I've found them to go through an airbrush fine without any additions but I've only used 2 this way. That kroot skin looks great btw

I mean if you want to be really fancy you can use the contrast medium to thin contrast paints, I just find they come out of the airbrush looking better if they're slightly watered down. I just use tap water.

If the red basecoat seen in the kroot skin is not appealing for your orks I'd probably go for purple instead.

But yeah in short the light white/cream zenithal over red/purple/blue base with an airbrushing of some contrast is the way to do skin for mass infrantry armies. Imo doing any more beyond that usually ends up looking bad and is just self torture. Once you do the guns and armor on top of that skin starting point, the models will look good. Again, picrel.

To be fair, you can still customize your own player character in SM2. And lot of the customization options are unique and iirc haven't been around before.

Decent list and obviously you can only use the models you have so I'm not going to suggest any of the resin stuff despite how good they are. But I will say Ravagers are kind of underwhelming compared to a flock of Dark Lance scourges who kind of just do the job better because they don't get shot back. You can still use them, but expect them to whiff a lot with only three shots and get blown up and you'll be crutching on that 4++ strat to keep them alive. And you really, really want at least one Squad of mandrakes for a redeployable objective unit with infiltrate. A Cronos is very cheap at 50 points and helps immensely with pain token economy, especially when you are using Scourges and Incubi who gobble those up like nothing.
Kabalites are a good unit but they have diminishing returns after you have enough to sticky all your objectives. And you can get more mileage out of them with Venoms, splitting them into two units of five than you can with Raiders because you're not really going to be using Lance with them. If you can swing it, you probably want Lilith Hesperax leading a unit of wyches because she is a total blender for her price and fills a slightly different niche than the Archubi unit.
If you are just proxying this or playing digitally and don't need to try to source out of print resin models, then Urien Rakarth is an incredibly good and cheap objective holder, and the Court of the Archon is an insane force multiplier in sky splinter. Beastmasters are also the only Scout unit in the army and are important for creating breathing room for you to set up your transports in good spots to deploy and attack from.

It's not actually a bad game or anything, it just made a terrible first impression, got latched on by rabid grogs complaining about things like jumping terminators and tried to do the esports thing which was retarded. The campaign story is also very weak and fails to get 40k, which is a shame because the previous titles did that so incredibly well. It ends with Gorgutz, Angelos and Macha all walking away from each other. But the annihilation skirmish mode is great and the hero system where you can structure your power for different stages of the game is neat. Also the knight-tier units are just cool, and the orks have the best faction mechanic I've ever seen in an RTS with their very unique waaagh mechanic. Actually a strategic mechanic where you can bait opponents and keep them guessing what you are gonna do.

Court and Beastpack are almost guaranteed. I wouldn't even go to the trouble of making proxies for them now when the codex is about two months out. They are both very weird by modern unit standards and GW will probably not be making replacements for them.

I think 5-man plague marines are one of the best value units in the game, honestly the 10-man double leader brick almsot always overkills by a LOT and it's hard with their limited reach to put them in a place where they can shoot more than one or two valuable units unless your opponent has a big blunder. Champions + infantry might be the way to go especially since champions can skip putrifiers and save themselves the 15 points, and malignants didn't get touched.

Hammer is dead and buried I think, the average list went by close to 300 points. It's a shame that they killed the PBC for all detachments because of Hammer, Hammer at its core is a badly designed detachment , it's a detachment about long-range shooting and circumventing infection reach in an army balanced around being slow moving.
Honestly hitting Mortarion's Hammer would have been better. Make you choose Afflicted targets in the shooting phase (it even makes more sense, they're getting bombarded) and half the problem is gone.

They did a 2.0 that fixed almost all the reactivation problems but they tend to be a bit flat and desaturated compared to other contrasts, and they dry pretty fast which isn't ideal. There's no reason to buy them over cheaper AK Quick Gen.

You run both the ravagers in the CPs as extra Raiders (still build as ravagers, just pop the gun turrets off the side to make them raiders) and now can load everything in transports. Run the mandrakes as 2 groups of 5. You build the scourges as half Dark Lance and Half Haywire. You won't have enough weapons between the kits but just do like Heat Lances and Dark Lances together and Haywire and Splinter Cannons together and call them all the same weapon and paint them the same as each other. You use the Venom to split one of the Kabalites into by guns and small guns and then cycle the Archon and incubi back into it after deployment. Lelith and the Wyches go in a raider.

/40kg/ is far and away the fastest general on all of /tg/, which is a relatively slow board. Some discussions are carried out over a month in other threads. Every time you make a new thread it bumps the oldest thread off the board and no one can post in that thread anymore.
