What's the legion that favors Destroyers the most? Both rules-wise and lore-wise. I imagine in the lore, DG would probably be the ones most likely to use them, but I doubt any of the traitor legions cared much about committing warcrimes either. Raven Guard for both. They Pioneered Moritats and have a fair number of them. RGs geneflaw is that they turn into serial killers that "see the dead" and become increasingly unhinged. Trait and advanced reaction keeps them alive. Plus the decal sheet has a ton of destroyer symbols on it for this reason.

The trait favors flanking as much as sniping or a gunline, which is easy to do with jump packs. Firestorm keeps them out of unnecessary combats, and the advanced reaction can scoot them away and grant shrouded. If you place them right, you'll get outside 18" front heir really shooty units and snap shots turn off augury scanners.

There's a Knight prime advantage that gives Battlesmith. I can't find any rule that indicates models aren't friendly models to themselves, so I assume that guy can heal himself?

For the more narrative-intensive players out there who play less "active" forces during Heresy (UM, Shattered Legions, 1kSons, etc) how do you reconcile their inaction with actually getting games in?

Example - I want to play a fluffy Ultramarines force, but they really aren't all the involved in anything prior to the siege outside small detachments. How are you justifying that? How are you dealing with an event where there is a rule such as "no X,Y,Z legion or Talons or Mechanicum?"

Or is this just a sign I should head over to /hwg/ or stop being so autistic?

So, if a unit has a Vexilla and it is joined by a centurion with his own vexilla, I wish they got +2 to combat res :(

Highly mobile shooting is inherently very strong - you can easily position yourself to get first strike/shoot around LOS with high mobility, and its very hard for melee units to actually pin you down.

Looking through stuff, and whilst Thunder Hammers are still the kings of TEQ purely for their width of availability, can I just say that a Librarian with a Force Axe is even better? Especially if you give him a Paragon of Battle Prime

You don't need phosphex rapiers to push IW off of an objective when literally any marine melee unit will do it. The IW trait doesn't protect you from combat resolution and IW are a super shooty legion so if you close into melee its pretty easy to fuck them up.

2+ saves aren't that bad as long as you have high Strength, helps if you're hitting on 2+ as well but even on 3+ it's still ~1/11 overall to cause damage if your W roll is a 2+

a weapon which meets those criteria and has a D characteristic of 2 or better is desirable regardless of AP; a weapon which has a high rate of fire is also desirable

it's still 5x less likely than a lascannon or multimelta but it's got the range of a lascannon and more gun food

Mission 3, Hammer and Anvil, RG vs IF. RG Victory 19-5. Objectives were center line parallel to deployment and about 20" apart.

I went first, dumped my two tacs out to toe into the control range of the objectives, scored 10 and reduced them by 1 each. IF tacs com up on the left objective, picrel is right before I move react into the ruin and hide my tacs. I stun his Vet tacs with a havoc but he saves it with a nuncio later. I move react my right tacs when cataphractii move up to them off the objective and behind their rhino, denying a charge, any shooting vanguard and hide them from more shooting. Land raider does one pen to my left rhino. His vet tacs, rotor squad and land raifer full of vet breachers stage on his half. The cata couldnt reach the right objective so he scored 4 off the left and reduced it to 1VP.

Turn two my Eagle full of breachers comes in the side, hidden from lascannons for interceptor. I drop my pod full of plasmagusn down to shoot catas. In the movement I dump my breachers 1.01" away from the IF tacs on the left side and toe in one tac into range of the objective. My Seekers set up to shoot his Vets with comibolters 24.1" away, sniping the vox and sarge, they then rout. 4 of my plasmaguns overload, kill the 4 and I kill 2 termis. Saturnine dread deletes the Rotor squad with armistos. My Furies stage on the left.I charge the tacs with my breachers to lock them in CC so my one Tac scores 3VP off the final call of the left objective. My tacs on the right score 4 off the right and bring it down to 1. His turn Pollux and breachers roll a 1 and dont deep strike. Vet breachers pile out on the right objective, I move react off to deny vanguard, pass my INT with the Augur and refund the RP. Cata shoot my Seekers who return fire doing 3 wounds to the Praetor and kill another termi. His Seekers get stuck in rhino parking lot hell because I shoved mine up next to his and have no shots on a valid target. TBC...

They're 5 man ret and vet squads anon, they're extremely easy to kill at range with any one of the many, MANY D2 guns. Besides which I'm looking at a master of descent so he may be planning to deepstrike some of them.

Even if he doesn't bother with a deepstrike its not really an issue, turn 1 the breachers and jetboys get 16" up board and jump on objectives. On my turn I flatten his vets because they're easy to kill and have vanguard, then I disgorge 20 axe Veletarii on each of his breacher squads and almost completely massacre them.

His turn 2 he routs my veletaris with his rets and moves his tacs on point, my turn 2 the LD10 command voxes regroup fleeing veletaris and his vets finish getting shot to death, then my veletaris mop up his tacticals, my lasrifles disembark from their dracos and we spend turns 3 and 4 camping all objectives while his rhinos try desperately to kill themselves.

Is this true? Can Solar Aux wipe marines like that in melee?

So, if you hit a squad with a Stun weapon, they test for it at the end of the phase. Meaning they can still Return Fire to anyone, right? So, technically, a Stun cannot prevent a HSS from Returning Fire, can it?

Terrible format. I think you're supposed to take good mobile shooting so second player can tie with First Strike 10-10. We forgot counter-offensive but it wouldn't have done anything. Should be end of the round it ticks down or something instead.

You'll likely never get it in this mission. You need Line 2 on points which means you need to land near your opponents which means they move react off. Shooty Vanguard will not let you catch up. Maybe indirect or mobile status dealers to try to stun the tacs so they cant react off? Even then I had a vox and command on the field to phone a friend at the start of my turn.

Axe Veletarii are 230 pounts for 20, take a master sarge with a power fist for 10 points and a vox + vex + blast pistol and you're looking at 250 points.

For the cost you get 38 WS4 I2 S5 AP3 D1 Shred/Breaching(5+) attacks and 3 WS5 powerfist swings. That'll absolutely massacre almost anything with a 3+ save

They die in droves to power axes/mauls because their defence is shit but thunder hammers are kinda bad into them because both are I2 so you don't get to thin the herd before you get hacked to death.

WS5 fucks them up pretty bad as does any AP4 shooting but theres so little of either in anons list he legitimate gets his shit pushed in.

Their arrival is guaranteed by the blatantly overpowered dracosan which can seat 22 for 140 points base, which is also an assault transport in solar pattern lmao.

Building some old Tacticals to round out my 40K Infantry and paint alongside my 30K Tacticals, I have to say I prefer the less precise arms of the older kit due to how much less infuriating it is, though the hands can look a bit silly on close inspection. It's relatively squishy as superheavies go, but it looks pretty good to me. Snapshotting against anything smaller than another superheavy isn't actually much of a problem, because the S13 D12 turbolaser is a 3" blast with 1d6 scatter so if you shoot centre mass it will be very hard for it to actually scatter enough to miss a large vehicle. Picks up a Spartan/Kratos/Raider a round on a 2+ and one of only a very few things that can meaningfully trouble the Brass Scorpion.

If he has killed a rhino to secure First Strike going second, it would have been tied to start at least. The issue is with tempo and the objectives losing value; I would be able to steal the higher chunk of points each of my turns. You could just make them impassible, or just not assign them anything if you spend the time to make sure no gaps exist. If they aren't stacked and a normal move gets on top. This is what I envision it trying to prevent, image isn't perfect but there does is clear. You aren't putting a tac squad or hss up there. It also prevents lone snipers seeing much more I suppose. Don't get too stuck on the cargo container. I mention other good examples that can include various GW walls that have tiny holes or slots that are otherwise obscuring which with the new rules means a unit outside could kill the whole squad inside if the see so much as a rivet. sadly yeah DA are not great right now. Their legion trait kinda fucking blows chunks since its basically just a worse version of the IW trait, their gambit is fucking AWEFUL, their reaction can be interesting but it sorta just exists to speed up the inevitable

The biggest issue with DA is that most of the reason they suck, is because of indirect nerfs.
- Heavy getting cucked on the set up makes getting theri elite terminators into combat a lot harder
- Plasma getting fucked makes their repeaters and plasma flamers shit
- Torrent getting removed makes they heavy incinerator shit.
- Lost all their wing abilities

The only thing they got going for them is the ability to spam Retinues and spam Prime troop slots.

his hammer is worse than a regular hammer because it's A-1; he's probably better for bullying Line off Objectives (especially giving infiltrate to another unit) than going up against other Praetors; of note is that he has worse WP than a stock Praetor so his ability to resist a Warp Rupture is worse, and he can get Soul Bound by Zardu Layak if he's in range of the blade slaves, for example

the sword is pretty good (as is the bonus attack) but this is definitely a bullying weapon rather than a duelling your equals weapon - he is significantly more expensive than the generic equivalent would be

say you use flurry of blows on him and all the attacks on the sword, its D1 anyway
but RAW, flurry of blows ONLY affects attacks made with your attacks characteristic, not the extra hammer attack you get for hitting 3 times with the sword, so its a cheeky way to get a multiple damage attack in

Thoughts on the various predator variants? I can make an all volkite, all las, or some sort of hybrid with the plasma turret. I didn't realize the plasma was s5" breaching 5+ and overcharging goes to 4+ D2.
