WHAT IF it doesn't fund? The Hasbro team are already saying they're planning more products based on the Battle of Geonosis for next year. So, do they take the egg on their face, or do they fudge the numbers, make it anyway, and backdoor sell the excess to the etailers?

Personally, IDGAF. I don't buy PT merch and I'm actually thrilled at the chance to save cash for other stuff next year.

They could have fudged the numbers on the Rancor with how close it was but since they didn't, I don't think that's something they will do. And all the BoG stuff can standalone without a gunship anyway though it would be a bit awkward as the marketing theme included the gunship

True, but the Rancor didn't factor in to their future line plans the next year. And the Rancor is a one-and-done for 99.9% of collectors. I could see Pulse, EE, BBTS willing to take a few Gunships since they're army-builder ships with their swappable nose art panels.

There has been speculation in the past that they've fudged numbers to fund. I can see it used on a case-by-case basis, especially if their etailer partners are willing to take a few extra units.

Everything for Geonosis was already planned over 2 years ago, so whether the gunship funds or not, they're gonna release stuff for that theme. It will just be missing this as the centerpiece. However, I would not be surprised if they have some sort of contingency in place where they release an extra playset or something since they likely already have the factory time booked and want the revenue. Plus there's going to be stuff for The Mandalorian & Grogu movie hitting too which might end up being the majority of the releases for the year anyway.

Yes, I know. But it's because of this that I think they might falsely assist the HasLab over the finish line rather than have egg on their face if it fails.

While it's possible they NEVER HAVE done so, that doesn't mean they NEVER WILL, as someone attempted to imply earlier.

They don't NEED a HasLab to sell Geonosis toys, but they don't need the bad publicity of a failure either.

I don't know how well that could have worked. Even if it was haslab size, they wouldn't be able to make it properly scaled. Plus it would be kind of boring imo. There wouldnโ€™t be a floor since it's sand so it'd just be some brown rocky texture walls. I guess the three beasts would be the most interesting part if they were to include those. I think the arena could work as a $60 play set though. Three columns for the chained heroes and maybe a gate or the observation platform for Dooku and co.

They could have even made a cardboard backdrop of it included with the gunship. I think they are scared of using cardboard now but I think there are instances where it can work.

Oh. That was Book of Boba Fett though. And even then the highest rated and most viewed episode of that show is the one starring Mando. I wouldn't say the character is unpopular. Even with the general consensus over the third season being the worst, its finale still had way more viewers than the other shows. And most of the criticism of that season was the fact that Din Djarin was being sidelined in his own show for Bo-Katan.

The idea that the majority of people buying TVC are happy with what the line is doing is completely bonkers. Reminder that every single person buying TVC is a fan of these toys because they grew up with- whether in the 70s, 80s, 90s, or 00s- actual toys. This bland, boring era is a new thing within the last 10 years and it's killing the line (along with a series of other dumb decisions). While many of them are showing their age compared to modern engineering, many of the toys especially produced from 2007-2012 or so were more than close enough to "screen accurate" and still had features out the ass. The big millenium falcon, the big AT-AT, the MTT, Turbo Tank and AT-TE were all excellent toys that still looked great, and they or anything like them could easily be produced today with updated/slightly more accurate looks and engineering and still maintain features and playability.

You small handful of vocal fucking morons acting like these aspects of toys in the *toys* you're buying are useless/unwanted couldn't be more wrong. If they were coming out just like that you'd be buying them all the same, and at least then they'd actually be interesting playthings that more people would be excited about, interact with, and would be functionally identical to what you have now- just with way more actual function and play. And hey, if a kid did get their hands on it, it might make a new fan instead of being some boring garbage that does nothing.

No those are just the turrets it comes with. I am curious what the backdrop poster is though. Maybe they will do a playset with the chain columns and include it with that. Also people need to know when and where cardboard works and where it doesn't. Floodlights and backdrop with the gunship would be great bonuses that add some much needed value. In hindsight it seems really weird that the collector-focused 3 3/4" line was at one point just part of the Black Series, that must have caused a lot of confusion. Of course, I think it's stupid that it's currently called "the vintage collection" when there's absolutely nothing vintage about it, and it has the same packaging as "the retro collection" which are classic Kenner styled toys. Made worse by the fact that GI Joe also had a "retro series" and there was nothing retro about it at all, it was just a rebranding of the 25th Anniversary line.

If I had it my way, there would be Black Series, Legacy Series (what is now called "Vintage Collection), because that's what it was called in the 2000s and carries on the "legacy" of the 3-3/4 line but with modern sculpts and articulation, the "vintage series" would be classic Kenner style 5POA retro figures. That would make the most sense to me, at least, but we're basically stuck with whatever it is that Hasbro is currently doing.

And now that I recall, another reason why the packaging for Vintage Collection is terrible-- they went with the facsimile style that the Retro Collection *should* have had, while putting that giant ass ugly red "RETRO COLLECTION" sticker on the Retro figures along with that ugly pre-weathered effect. Vintage Collection should have a more modern looking package design with unique artwork distinct from the original Kenner line, while the Retro Collection should embrace the fact that it's a facsimile of the Kenner line. I just don't get what the logic behind the Star Wars team is.

There is no logic. It's all retard, all the time. We had a legitimate 8 year stretch of toys where we didn't even get so much as a wave of figures that actually went together. At least they sort of seem to be trying to be.. better..? Now, but it's not nearly enough and the brand is still infected with absolute fucking dipshits.

Oh yeah, haslab should have been an arena, or a tantive 4, or a star destroyer or SOMETHING big and impressive, not this.

I think they were following cartoon character protocols. you wouldn't recognize Homer Simpson if he did not have his white shirt/blue pants. Who is the NEW baby Yoda! Ahh there's two of them! no no, that's just Grogu in a new outfit...

I think they did intend for Mando to eventually get COLOR to his armor, it's the only reason for it to start out silver, but they probably couldn't decide which color to use, and then it became "too late" everybody got used to the silver and might not recognize him if he did change the color... oh well looks like they are stuck with silver...

They were doing small but subtle changes which I think kind of worked. Like first he got the beskar, then he got the signet and jetpack. Season 2 he had a different piece on his right thigh. BOBF he walked around with the spear and darksaber. Season 3 he got the dual blasters. But what I find weird is the footage form the movie shows him back with his original blaster so it's like they regressed a bit.

Remember when they used to refresh packaging and change the line name like every 2 years or something? Now it's just vintage and black series in the same boxes forever. Maybe it's to avoid confusion idk. At least black series started changing up packaging. I wish TVC would get a new look and name. They used to be keen on helmet shaped packaging, could be cool to go back to that. But of course they will never change because of how much money they get from the card fags who are very autistic about the Kenner cards and their numbers and sizes and stuff

The reason I think they're sticking with TVC is because the cardbacks and numbers give it an easy way to get additional sales. Many people buy them specifically for that reason or in addition to the ones they open. So while I agree, I would love to have a new package refresh and format (if only because the bubble on the 6x9 card is pretty limiting in what can be packed in), I think at this point it's important to get as much out of the sales as possible since this is already a niche line. If they dropped TVC for something new, it would probably be the death of 3.75 Star Wars because most of the people aren't going to want to start a new carded collection. This is why I think they haven't finished the O96 as well because I think they feel that many older collectors will finally bow out after that.

Tantive 4 would have made plenty of sense. It was too big for Kenner to release in the original toyline at a viable price, and that was with some major compromises to keep it only a little bigger than the Falcon, and has always been the one that got away. Vintage Collection scale would still have to be scaled down but it would work fine in either the Kenner scale or Vintage scale, and they could fit in some cool stuff like a hallway with escape pods, a cockpit, and a working turret or two.

It's a much more complete structure, actually looks displayable, has an inside and an outside with completed walls and portions of roof, had additional tatooine market stalls, and a dewback with food and water stall and a speeder. It's a complete set.

Obviously the mediums are different so I don't expect dozens of figures included with the Hasbro cantina, but the LEGO feels like a well thought out complete toy and the haslab an unfinished diorama builder- literally closer to a model kit than a toy.

>>11530955
I don't understand this as an argument. "They're not gonna use it" well for people that just put things on a shelf and don't touch it they're really not "using it" at all. Including features in a toy should not be dependent on whether or not what someone *might* do with it. Both vintage and current diaclone have massive features packed items that are super expensive- only collectors are buying that whether they use them a lot or not.
Masters of the universe is managing to put out multiple multi hundred dollar sets that are both a) bought almost entirely by collectors and b) still unequivocally fuckhuge toy first playsets. Star wars toys - from the vintage all the way up to just a few years ago - had all sorts of features and that didn't stop anyone- including you- from collecting them. The fact that you're almost surprised, and defensive, of the fact that there are people out there disappointed with the lack of "toy" in their toy is pretty wild to me.

I truly don't mean to sound overly repetitive or want to be annoying- except maybe I do. I've been voting with my wallet and if the vintage cardback autists can bitch and moan their way into getting what they want I have the faintest of hopes that if perhaps I and others with similar views- that want toys to be toys again- speak up enough perhaps we might get them someday.

I haven't been buying epic heroes. That's a little kid line, and tvc has become some boring model car line. It should be a middle ground, nice detail and articulation and ships that look exactly as they do, but with features when it's appropriate- and some experimention in the figures would be nice too. Playsets could be actual playsets and not just some walls to decorate shelves with. Wild, I know. The last things I've picked up were an E wing and the thrawn 3 pack.

Which I should add, the Thrawn figures from the pack look great but holy shit these are terrible toys. I've got a thrawn from 1998 that stands well, came with a pop up backdrop, and had his little force lizard that snaps perfectly onto his neck. I've got a thrawn with more modern articulation from 2010ish that came with a comic book and another figure, stands well, and has a force lizard that fits very well and stays on his neck.

This thrawn can barely stand(an issue I have with some of the various other modern figures I've picked up in the past 5 years), and his little lizard will fall off his neck if you breath on it, or touch it, or anything. I literally had to put sticky tack on the fucking thing to keep it on.

Will definitely still get 2k or so pledges in the final days, but I think it will fail to meet the goal.

$450 + shipping and fees is just too fucking steep for a slightly larger LAAT when all of the serious collectors already have one. These were both so cool. Sad to see that kind of experimentation all but dead in SW.
These super battle droids- the exploding one looked great, and perfectly fit for display, even including blast effect, yet still functioned great as a toy. And then the clay one, when you got a great pull from the mold actually looked decent(better than in this photo) and you could have jedi stab through it with their lightsabers. It worked really well and was an interesting gimmick.
There was talk of epic heroes above and it does feel a bit too kiddish for my tastes because there's nothing like either of these battle droids going on with it. Theres a lot of baffling decisions with it too. Most of the figures that have better articulation already have better counterparts in more detailed lines. And then the figures where they are the only options for the characters get the short end of the stick with 5 POA. None of them have unobtrusive features, the lightsabers are all permanently the weird effect, any of the armor and larger weapons are big, bulky things that are fun enough but look ridiculous. It is a kids line, not something that functions as *both* a kids toy and something that looks great in a collector display the way the exploding battle droid does.

The most common comment Iโ€™ve seen is "we already have this". If a big chunk of typical Haslab backers are long time collectors that don't want another gunship, it might have trouble funding without them.

Really, as the brand continues to decline Haslabs will continue to struggle. Eventually there might not be 14k Star Wars fans left willing to spend money on Star Wars merch lol. I noticed the subreddit member numbers go down for every piece of new media that comes out

Thanks for the replies !
I bought it second hand at a convention, so it is possible it would be a custom that was mislabeled (and I didn't pay attention at the time).
However it's surprising because it would not be only a simple headswap, someone would have to also remove the arms to obtain the Pilot I have.
So far it's the closest guess I have, so thank you !
I'll be hunting down the real "Oddball", that one will be a fun variant in my shelf !

No problem. I'm leaning more towards it being a factory error than a custom. I can't imagine why someone would go through the trouble of swapping all of that around for that specific result. It would be easier to just paint the dots onto the chest of the pilot. So I would bet it is just an Odd Ball figure that mistakenly got the torso of the Speeder Bike Recon driver and slipped through QC. They were probably being produced at the same time since they hit only a few months apart.

I've run projections and crunched numbers and at the rate it's going, it'll just cross over the finish line, provided it behaves like and follows the pattern of every other Haslab. As long as it keeps chugging away at an average of 45-55ish per day, which it has, it'll enter its last 5 days with about 4.5k, which sets it up for a last day surge that pushes over the finish line. If it does 150% of its first 5 days in its last, which isn't too far fetched compared to other campaigns, it'll just make it over the finish line. For context, the Cantina did 160% of its first 5 days in its last 5 days, other campaigns that entered their final day unfunded, like Giant Man and the Sky Striker, did massive numbers on their last days relative to their starts. Even the much maligned Rancor managed to do over 3.5k in its last 5 days. Basically, it's gonna be very close, and while it's technically on track to fund, it's success is by no means guaranteed, but neither is its failure. We likely won't know until its over.

My metric was based on the campaigns current last 10 day average for the remaining doldrum days, and the pattern pretty much every Haslab at the end, not some arbitrary numbers I pulled out of my ass. You're correct that something this low hasn't funded, the Rancor however came incredibly close at 8533 out of 9000. The surge the LAAT will need at the end really isn't as out of reach as you think it is, if it matches the Rancor's numbers in its last days, it'll at least fund. Once again, I'm not saying I think it'll necessarily fund, just that its not out of the question if you're going off the usual Haslab pattern.

Of course it would have the same problem the gunship has, which is that there aren't enough people who know or care that the vehicle is undersized.

No major change in trajectory. It's a steady rise, but it needs to really pick up speed going forward if it's going to get funded. FanExpo is another chance to show it off in person and do some marketing, but I don't really know what they can do that would give it a significant bump.

I think I can live with the headsculpt. I think it's the hair particularly the thick sideburns that make it look worse. But it's the thick wrists that bother me the most. In general he looks kinda fat when he is pretty slender in the movie. And the hips jut out a bit too much making it look weird. Actually maybe the wideness of the hips is the main problem throwing everything off. The black series was able to put the legs closer together

People complained Endor Han looked short and stout because they reused the Solo movie figure but the new ANH one looks almost the same, if not worse in some areas like the thighs.

A lot of that has to do with the vest. Their more recent insistence on separate pieces doesn't always work at this scale. Same for the hair -- for the most part molding the hair separately has worked fine, but you get cases like this where something is clearly awry and worse than figures we got 20 years ago.

Yea, I imagine as the years went on it probably just became better financially to just pay for the con booths than having to create this huge production with hosting talent and a stage. I think part of it is also due to the rumor that Hasbro is trying to move their HQ out of Rhode Island. So it's probably not worth doing all that set design and building just to have to take it all down again. And if they leave that property then the 10.27 also wouldn't make sense anymore because it's named after the building's address.

But what would be the point of that? It also seems stupid to make pilots locked to this campaign anyway, especially if they're only going to card one of the two that are included, when they're needed for other things we have and would be worth upgrading from the old 3.75 Black Series or the TVC 1.0 Gunship versions.

It's still stupid to lock the basic one here though. They should have just made these pack in figures special by giving swappable heads for Phase I and Phase II looks, that way the carded one would still be unique and then they could put out a regular Phase I in the mainline.
