Update on metal gear ray. Trying to get the right proportions is a huge bitch. I'm just happy this thing can actually stand up on its own. I think I was finally able to get a decent enough frame for the torso, now I need to give it detail and shape. Hopefully that doesn't fuck with the proportions too badly, or make it too heavy. How has Lego done 17 Fortnite characters but none of them I really want? c'mon, Lego! 2383 more to go! step it up! Can I get a Fable, Calamity, or even a TNTina? would it help if I asked "please"? and please, also, don't shove them in a $400 set, that would be mean.

--different people [B] got furious over that (for valid reasons?)
--[B] would report/nuke threads by [A]
--[A] wouldn't stop, instead spam even more threads, causing [B] to loose their minds in rage
-80% of each thread boiled down to [A] & [B] yelling at eachother, nothing to do with Lego

I think janny gave the spammer 2 day ban but didn’t delete any of his threads. Because janny hates having to work. Deleting threads is is hard work and makes him sweat profusely. Spammer IP hops but sometimes he takes the vacation. Not sure why but it must be exhausting making threads all day every day. Everyone else who wanted to discuss lego on /toy/ sees 20+ complete shit threads compared to the 50 before and is either going afk (temporary or otherwise) or waiting for janny to do his job.

spammer got rid of everyone including janny and himself (just for a few days though, it’s also possible janny died but he will be replaced easily)

>Complaints that a set priced at around €1,000 still uses stickers and doesn't include the most detailed minifigures are to be expected, even if the reasons for this are the same as always with LEGO. After all, a €1,000 LEGO set is simply a LEGO set, subject to the same restrictions that LEGO imposes on all its setsβ€”just a bit more expensive.

For that price there's absolutely no reason they couldn't have made a fully modeled structure. Ideally it would be two halves of a sphere that open like a dollhouse, or something like picrel. It should also have a rotating base so you can easily turn it to different angles for display. Absolute ass and as much as people seem to think consoomers will buy it anyway I think even they know where to draw a line.

I have a feeling that Lego uses stickers to avoid dedicating a warehouse inventory spot to yet another decorated piece that is only used in ONE FREAKING SET. especially a thousand dollar set that nobody will buy.

the warehouse realty space is limited, and they'd rather just use the regular piece, that's already there, and the stickers get printed on-demand, no "space" taken up for that.

it's probably a reason that we get -1 minifigs in each set (animal crossing!) these days, as a new head/torso print has to be put somewhere, just remove a minifig from the set is easier for them then giving us full value to the set.

the small family business does not have infinite warehouse space.

>>11552282
I noticed this when I did a sticker-heavy Speed Champions set, it slowed down the process and after it was done it totally felt like I had built a model kit instead of a Lego (but also highlighted the warehouse issue, as they would have needed like 50 more spots, for just one car? no way)

Who the fuck cares about the price per piece ratio holy shit it's literally a non-argument when you have thousands of 1x1 bricks. This is just an excuse to charge more for less.

Like, if you look at the whole thing divided into 8-ish dioramas put together, with the size of each diorama being something like the Tantive IV boarding which is $55 that is $440. Let's say the laser component is another $50. Then let's bump it another $100 for some of the larger areas like the hangar and throne room. They are charging you $400 just for a bunch of bricks to build a hull for the whole thing to be pieced together. No matter which way you look at this pos, Lego intentionally designed this to be as cost effective while making as much profit as humanly possible.

The annoying thing about the death star situation is that star wars gets seriously shafted when it comes to location builds. Scenery, buildings, etc, all seriously lacking. All we get is ships ships ships. So when we FINALLY get a location as a set, of course it's this quadruple digit piece of shit.

What I wouldn't give for a return to the master builder series. Or better yet, why the fuck isn't there a modular building line for lego star wars? Imagine if you could buy sets for dexter jettster's diner, padmeps apartment, a landing platform, the ep2 nightclub, etc as modular sets that let you build a corsucant together

if this set were made by nu-lego, instead of a baseplate you'd have an overengineered construction that uses 1000 pieces by itself, the top of the chessboard would be made up of 1x1 black and white tiles, half the pawns would instead be sold separately as a battlepack, and the whole thing would cost 400 dollars

>>11552450
from what I understand, the minifig sloppers aren't very impressed either. For one, you really don't get that many figs considering the price point. If you compare it to the mos eisley cantina, for instance, that set has more than half the figs but cost less than half the price. And the figs in that set were a lot of cool unique guys like the cantina band, greedo, the lizard nigga, imperial spy, and a bunch of other aliens with unique head molds and such. With the death star, it's mostly a bunch of generic officers and troopers. And three (3) lukes. Only really notable characters IMO are bathtub trooper, the purple emperor's advisor, and krennic. If if there aren't actually a bunch of cool characters on the death star they could've based the set on, they could've at least made up for it with quantity. More officers, more imperial advisors, , way more troopers and so on.

tldr figfags will probably just bricklink the bathtub trooper and imperial advisor

I think the death star is just conceptually flawed,
The "adult" lego sets should be scale models, this death star is some quasi high end kids playset,
If they wanted to do this they should have made a modular system like the harry potter Hogwarts castle system and then sold modular segments that people could eventually build into a "complete" death star similar to this.
The death star is just not a good set to make into an "adult" lego set. I dont think there is a single spherical death star moc that actually looks good.

see the way her torso female-coded-curves are a little too much? Nope! Lego doesn't do it that much.

it's really hard to get away with a new-designed element and feel like it's "real", but hair pieces that match 100% but are in different colors? that's fine.

>set with GWP os $1000 and still doesnt hit 10k pieces (youre paying a Disney tax)
>minifigs look great, with the exception of C3P0 being a downgraded version that came in another set
>50 plus fucking stickers instead of prints
all in all its a great looking set. I really like the dollhouse look and the minifigure scale it has. Could be a lot of fun to play with. The FOMO with the tie fighter really makes me want to get it. Would I be better off just buying the 2016 playset? I'm picking up some big sets to make in depth reviews of on YouTube, getting the new Black Pearl and maybe the death star. or should I just say fuck it and pull the trigger on Lion's Knight Castle before it retires? I recall average people being really hyped when the 800 dollar falcon was announced. Lego must have seen that reaction and then doubled down with the AT AT. Which did not sell as well. Lego must have thought
>hmmm they must want to spend even more money
When the reality is the falcon was novel at that price point and looked accurate and in scale with minifigures. People who like the actual falcon in the movie generally like the look of the ucs falcon. The AT AT, while fine design-wise, was just another ridiculous shelf warmer that no one actually has space for. The people that bought the falcon are probably juggling it around their house because they can’t find a spot for it. It doesn’t fit on shelves. How on earth would they then buy another massive shelf warmer.
>enter Death Star
The Death Star just seems like obscene levels of arrogance. It’s a 1000 dollar set with a ridiculous amount of stickers and it’s meant to be a minifigure display area. It's more reasonable but still expensive, there's a lot to talk about for a review. If you just want the set for yourself though, consider getting the minifigs off PaB and buying the bricks separately to build your own castle. The set honestly looks a bit plain and doesn't have as much space inside as you'd think. I mean compare it to picrel in terms of aesthetics. The cave, the tower, the little fireplace in the great hall. Great stuff. Neat, cozy details. Best ideas set in ages because it made little modifications to the original design which was already great. The fan designer did tons of Bricklink Designer sets. He designed the Wolfpack tower for series 6.

there's no way it won't be another $400 Ship, they might even make it $600 for the 60th,

Lego won't do one scene from one random episode, it will be Big Ship, Spice Girls-sized full-crew Brickhead everyone will roll their eyes at (c'mon when you say "3 sets" the Brickheads shouldn't count!) and a giant buildable Spock, still like $90, but it comes with the Spock minifig (wow!! I legitimately do not see the point of making Star Trek and Zelda full scale themes when:
>1. Star Trek hasn't been popular for over a decade outside of the "reddit consoomer" market
>2. there are a ton of Non-licensed themes they can sell for cheaper
>3. TLG doesn't need to make cheap sets for zelda since the only people that will buy them are the Reddit consoomers with disposable incomes
It just makes no sense to make full themes of them (let alone evergreen lines) when their primary target audience (scalpers and basedboys) will quite literally spend hundreds of dollars on glorified dust collectors for reddit updoots. we're talking about subhumans who would spend $500 on a handheld console that's barely an upgrade to it's nine year old predecessor for freaks sake.
>but muh minecraft
Minecraft quite literally requires being creative in order to be interesting, it can't just sell some giant grey triangle or some shitty modular just because of some exclusive minifig nobody outside of gooners will care about.
>but muh one piece
acting like that line will last longer than 1 or 2 years when it's based off a freaking Netflix adaption of all things, is an extreme stretch of logic.

the Speed Champions sets famously NEVER show the Minifigures on the box. sometimes you can peek in the windows and see them, but it's not like they show them standing next to the cars.

it's still possible there's a little Owen Wilson inside that thing. (though if he WAS included, you think that would be a selling point, to put on the box??)

dare Lego be cool enough to do such an amazing thing?

I wish. But it looks like it's the first Speed Champions without a minifigure, no minifigure displayed on top of the box, nothing on the back, the dream is dead. Heck, I'd be surprised if you could even put a minifigure inside him since the interior will probably be rainbow colored bricks.

Because Speed Champions is the minifigure scaled licensed car theme.
Lightning McQueen is not based on a real car, therefore not licensed. Disney has their own theme, why couldn't they have put it in there?

Lego's done Pixar character references in sets, quite often, actually

although that's probably due to them inflating the piece count unnecessarily, but hey, they've done it.

All they need is one blip in the instruction book to explain "voiced by actor Owen Wilson"

I miss when Speed Champions was 6 studs wide.
I think Lego suffers from "scale bloat" where builds get bigger and more detailed yet minifigures remain the same size and proportions. I mean, placing a modern Lego city car or a Speed Champions car next to a train (which has remained the same gauge since the 90s) makes the train look undersized or narrow gauge.
But this is coming from the same guy who complains when Star Wars ships are undersized or not proportional.

do they have ways of blocking him? I once accidentally posted a picture of a thing, not knowing it was against the rules, and got banned for a few days. how can they not simply stop him from doing whatever he's doing?
