I don't know if its because I have my expectations in check or what, but I never expected the show to adhere to anything but the Bethesda style of the universe, mainly fallout 4 that is so I'm not upset that it's not something else. Yeah, the deathclaw connection seems like a smart choice but I don't think he should be a straight-up hero. The courier always felt more dynamic and unhinged than other recent Fallout protagonists, he should probably be an anti-hero. Perhaps include a poker scene with life-or-death stakes similar to Casino Royale in order to pay for his deathclaw expertise. There's a lot of possibilities with a good writing team but with the one currently running the show, I think they should probably just leave the courier out of it.

Reminder: There is no reason to assume the NCR is done for. Todd himself said Shady Sands wasn't the end and there are still NCR states like The Hub around. If anything the nuking of the capital got rid of the politicians that let the NCR decline in political willpower and the loss of the capital becomes a call to action for the other states to rally behind.
