I don’t like MMA but the Undisputed series kicks ass. First one is boxing and it’s Ving Rhames and Wesley Snipes. Ving is based off Mike Tyson I believe.
Second one is Michael Jai White and I believe he is supposed to be Ving Rhames character from the first movie. It goes into MMA here and introduces Scott Adkins.
The third and fourth movies Scott Adkins is the protagonist.

It's not great for self defense because they train you to win UFC fights which is how it devolves into telling you to get on your back and just kick the other guy in the shins. That wouldn't work outside of the ring.

If you want to know self defense you just learn how to punch and do a little grappling. Kicking isn't really something you will be using, you can't just learn to lift your foot high enough to kick someone in the face, that's the kind of flexibility you need years to work up to.

Current meta game MMA grapplers like chimaev and makhachev know how to shoot from the side, making the interception very difficult. 1. People that can effectively chain wrestle / hold their opponent down in the UFC are quite small. Since it is the "meta" skill, fighters are now training against it.

2. Current ruleset favours wrestling rules. In Wrestling competition, once you're in the dominant position, a point is given and the positions are reset. In UFC, there's none of that, so the wrestler is incentivized to hold the pinned / dominant position and pillow punch their way to victory. This can be easily mitigated by adding a rule of 30 seconds that if no active submission or damage is being applied the position has to reset.

3. Even with that rules in place, Top chain wrestler like Islam and Khamzat would still win since if you can't defend the takedowns its entirely your fault.
